In a momentous stride towards progress, the Gurez sector in Bandipora district, Jammu and Kashmir, witnessed a transformative event as it was connected to the electricity grid for the first time since Independence. Previously reliant on diesel generator sets for power, this region was the singular area in the Valley to resort to such measures, as per officials.
The Kashmir Power Distribution Corporation Limited (KPDCL) celebrated this monumental achievement, marking the successful charging of the 33kV Line and RSTN Dawar, triumphing over challenging terrains. This breakthrough event ushers in a new era for Gurez, eliminating its reliance on DG sets and embracing the convenience of grid connectivity.
Jammu and Kashmir Lieutenant Governor, Manoj Sinha, took to Twitter to acknowledge this historic feat, hailing it as a momentous day for Gurez. He highlighted the significance of the occasion, particularly for an area historically isolated during winter months due to heavy snowfall.
Sinha underlined the impact of this milestone, expressing delight that around 1,500 consumers across various Panchayats will benefit from the newly energized 33/11kV Receiving Station. Moreover, ongoing efforts aim to extend this connectivity to all villages in a phased manner, promising further progress for the region.
Jammu and Kashmir has witnessed unprecedented growth in past few years. This has been possible after the abrogation of Article 370 in 2019, which paved the way for the governance to reach every corner of the Union Territory.
