Barkhan tragedy is a painful and heinous crime: Dr. Naseem Baloch

Chairman of the Baloch National Movement Dr. Naseem Baloch, in a statement, about the distressing incident in Barkhan said the state and state agents have intensified the Baloch genocide and atrocities. In Barkhan, MPA Abdul Rehman Khetran kept a mother with six children in a private jail including a young girl. They were killed after being subjected to physical, mental and sexual torture for four years. The bodies of these people were found near Abdul Rahman’s mansion on Tuesday. Dr Baloch pleads that the people have to resist this beastly person to respond to this brutality. He opined “There is no room for such characters in Baloch society. Resistance against the state and its agents is the duty of all of us. The Pakistani state has handed over our land to the parliamentary parties by banning the nationalist politics in occupied Balochistan so that they can easily crush and eliminate the Baloch traditions”.

Dr. Naseem Baloch said that the father of the children, Khan Muhammad Gazzeni Marri, appealed for help from the so-called state, state institutions and the so-called tribal leaders on social media, but being a Baloch, no one listened to him. All the tribal figures were silent in the past and are still silent about these killings because they and Abdul Rahman have the same master.

He further added, “Regarding the presence of these children in a private prison, Senator Kamran Murtaza in the Senate of Pakistan, had pointed out that Khan Muhammad’s wife and children are in a private prison of a provincial minister. No one paid attention to this, because all the MPAs in Balochistan are chosen with the blessings of the GHQ. In return, they are assigned the responsibility of atrocities and genocide on the Baloch. At that time, all the members of the so-called assembly are engaged in humiliating the people of Balochistan, mass killings, ending nationalist politics, spying on freedom fighters and spreading religious extremism at the behest of the Pakistani army. Their silence on such incidents is itself a confirmation of our position.”

Abdul Rahman Khetran sexually assaulted Farzana, the little girl of Khan Muhammad Marri, and the fearlessness with which she was killed by cutting her throat on Tuesday, is also proof that the provincial minister is doing everything on the orders of his master [State]. On the other hand, this incident is an attempt to divert people’s attention toward the abduction of Mahal Baloch. Barkhan incident is a very painful and heinous crime. Pakistani institutions have already decided to wipe out the Baloch people. Now it is the time for international organizations to intervene in Balochistan and play a role in stopping the Baloch genocide.

Dr. Naseem Baloch said, “with the support of the state institutions, the so-called provincial minister Abdul Rahman Khetran brutally killed Khan Muhammad Marri’s wife Granaz, his daughter Farzana, his son Muhammad Nawaz, 22, Abdul Qadir, 15, and a little girl. Granaz had accused Abdul Rahman in her life and it was confirmed that the family was forced to live a life of slavery in Abdul Rahman Khetran’s prison. Yet, Abdul Rehman Khetran does not fear the law in killing them because he knows that the state institutions will protect him”

BNM Chairman said even after Barkhan and many similar incidents, if anyone is thinking that he can protect Baloch’s rights, dignity and honor by staying within the framework of Pakistan, then he is very mistaken. Parliamentary party workers should also realize this and support the parties engaged in the Baloch freedom struggle so that tomorrow they can satisfy their conscience and set a good example for future generations. Otherwise, they will be declared as accomplice of characters like Abdul Rahman Khetran.

Minister murders a woman and her two sons in occupied Balochistan

In the Barkhan area of occupied Balochistan, the body of a mother and her children was found near a well. When the identification of the dead bodies was ascertained, Khan Muhammad Marri, a local tribesman confirmed the deceased were his wife Giran Naz, eldest son Mohammad Nawaz and another son Abdul Qadir. Marri also accused the Balochistan Minister for Communication and Works (C&W), Sardar Abdul Rehman Khetran of killing his family members. He said that his wife ,sons and five other family members had been imprisoned in Khetran’s private prison since 2019. The reason behind them being behind the jail was not testifying in a case conflict between Abdul Rehman Khetran and his son, Sardar Inam Khetran.

Khan Muhammad even said that the people are not only being subjugated to forced labour by the provincial minister but are also sexually and physically assaulting them in his private jail. He said that a video of his wife had surfaced on a website after which his family’s bodies were found in a well.

Balochistan Minister for Communication and Works (C&W), Sardar Abdul Rehman Khetran

VBMP Vice Chairman Mama Qadeer Baloch said that the killer of the incident has the blessing of GHQ, while talking to the delegation, Mama Qadeer wrote that Balochistan is burning, everywhere there is blood, neither men nor women are safe in Balochistan. Institutions kidnap women in public, make baseless accusations against them and no one questions them.”Why were the state institutions silent at that time? Why didn’t anyone move, because those people were prisoners of the one who has the blessings of GHQ and has his hand on his head. You should understand that those who claim to be the representatives of Balochistan are representatives or special servants of the institutions that have bled Balochistan”, he said.

The members of the Marri tribe had called for a dharna in front of the Chief Minister’s House in Quetta against the arrest of the killers. Protestors have announced to continue the sit-in until the dismissal and arrest of the provincial minister. The protestors include members of political and social organizations and people from different walks of life. Meanwhile thousands of people participated in the funeral to show their solidarity to the ruthless killing.

Farooq Abdullah’s devious game to whip up religious sentiment in Kashmir

Kashmir valley politicians have mastered the art of inciting in subtle ways the inflammable religious sentiments of the majority community. The era of Indian voters distinguishing between a selfless leader and unsparing nonsense is yet to arrive. The irony is that a party carrying on its shoulders a huge baggage of fake “secularism” for nearly a century should have the compulsion of talking the language of a fanatic. It is regrettable.

Dr Farooq Abdullah, the party scion, has recently made a statement that “they (BJP government) want to convert Kashmir into a Hindu majority.”  Such off-the-cuff statements coming from the lower rungs of the National Conference spring no surprise to a Kashmir watcher. Because there is absolutely no substance in such insinuations, nobody takes it seriously. Not even the ordinary Kashmiri, to whatever faith or faction, he belongs, will he take it seriously.

But coming from the mouth of Dr Farooq Abdullah, the tallest leader in the valley, who was not only the chief minister of J&K for decades but also a cabinet minister at the centre and currently a parliamentarian, such statements are unfortunate.

Farooq often calls himself an Indian, lock, stock and barrel. Recently he asserted in the parliament “main ek Hindutstani hun, yahan hi jeena aur marna hai.” (I am an Indian and I live and die here). This is a bold statement uttered in parliament. Misinformed Indians take him for granted.

He often repeats the rhetoric. Though such statements are gall to pro-Pak and separatist elements in Kashmir, yet he says it from the depth of his heart. We all know the reason why he says so. Pakistani leadership never showed his father the respect he deserved as the tallest leader of Kashmir.  They had hatred for him and the National Conference of which he was the founder.

Farooq has lived in London and he has had good contacts with the Pakistani and PoK diaspora in the UK. He has also been rubbing shoulders with them, particularly when his father was removed from power and kept under house arrest for more than a decade.

As a dutiful son, he carried out activities in UK and PoK to arouse public opinion in favour of his detained father. He even would take the center stage in rallies in different towns of PoK — Mirpur, Kotli, Bag etc. — and raise anti-India slogans. We cannot vilify him for such activities, (he is said to have even  taken up a gun in his hand at one rally and said that if India does not understand us Kashmiris, we shall make use of this—lifting the gun!).

These are the bouts of sentimentality, and one should not make them a point to decide the role of Farooq. But saying that “they” want to convert the valley into a Hindu majority at a time when he is not in power and has crossed eight and half decades of his life, is unacceptable. Why so? Let me explain.

Sometimes early 1981 Sheikh Abdullah was in power for the second time. A booklet of about 35 pages titled in Urdu as Kashmir ki aksariyyat ko aqalliyat main badalne ki sazish (The conspiracy of converting Kashmir majority into minority) was written by Abdur Rahim Rather, then a legislator and later the finance minister in Farooq’s cabinets. It was printed at Nawai Subh printing press of the Urdu newspaper Khidmat, the official organ of NC. Perhaps only a limited number of its copies were published with a red cover, and hence called Red Book. The language of the booklet was not at all of Abdur Rahim Rather. Those in Kashmir conversant with the style of the biography of Sheikh Abdullah (Atash-e-Chinar) will have no difficulty in guessing who the real scriptwriter of this booklet could be.

The theme of the book proves the deep obsession of a Muslim mind with self-generated collective insecurity, and hence non-transparency and secrecy. Nothing could be called a wilder imagination than the contents of this booklet. Its anti-Hindu text is profusely interspersed with highly provocative and daunting verses from Allama Iqbal. The refrain is that a great conspiracy is hatched in the spheres of destroying the Muslims of Kashmir, and by implication, the unnamed destroyer is Hindu India. (The English version of this booklet has been appended to a publication titled Some Insights into Contemporary Kashmir History).

So obnoxious and loathsome was the impact of this piece of propaganda that the booklet had to be withdrawn within two hours of its distribution among the selected individuals in the bureaucracy and legislature. Despite all the grouse that Farooq Sahib may have against the Modi government, he will hang his head in shame reading this booklet.

No doubt the booklet was withdrawn forthwith but the point is that it reflects the mindset of individuals who claim to be the elected leaders from a “secular” political party. The decimation of the philosophy of “secularism” paid substantial dividends to the author who was taken into Farooq’s cabinet as finance minister. Was not Farooq subtly Islamizing Kashmir?

This event took place in 1981. I would ask Dr Farooq to go through the census data of 2011 and see for himself the ratio of the Muslim and Hindu population in Kashmir.  According to official figures, the population of Srinagar city in 2011 showed an increase of 20.35 per cent in comparison to the census of 2001 and Anantnag showed an increase of 38.58 per cent for the same period. In both towns, the population of Muslims is 99.7 per cent  and 99.9 per cent respectively. The population of Hindus in the valley in 1947 was around 7 per cent and today 2023, their population is just .07 per cent. Is that changing Kashmir into a Hindu majority?

Farooq Sahib will never answer the question of whether or not the ethnic cleansing of Kashmir in 1990 was a meticulously planned and closely guarded secret till the last minute. When that barbaric plan was launched on 19 January 1990, Farooq Sahib, apprehensive that the nuts and bolts of the conspiracy would become known sooner or later, resigned as chief minister and ran away to London to shy away from the people who had reposed trust in him and voted him to power. He betrayed and went on playing golf in London.

His defunct council of ministers hid in government bungalows in Jammu and arranged foolproof security guards for the entire group lest they faced reprisals from the local people in Jammu. At the same time, these defunct political gangsters quickly established liaisons with the commanders of the jihadists operating in the valley.  The rest is history.

One would like to ask Dr Farooq Abdullah whether the ethnic cleansing of Kashmir of its entire Hindu population of nearly 3.5 lakhs will be called “changing the democratic complexion of Kashmir or whether providing 80 lakh crore rupees as a development plan for Jammu and Kashmir will be called changing the demography of Kashmir. Whether the clandestine, and illegal settlement of 89 thousand Rohingya migrants in Jammu (not Kashmir) and providing them all civic facilities including ration cards, free electric connection etc., will be called “demographic change of Kashmir or clandestinely allowing nearly one million Muslim labourers from UP, Bihar and Madhya Pradesh to settle down in the valley, marry Kashmiri Muslim girls and raise families will be called changing the demography of Kashmir.

This is food for thought for Dr Farooq Sahib to recollect how he has been instrumental in the Islamization of Kashmir. If there is any reaction to his communal and parochial policy narrative from nationalist quarters, why should he become upset?  We have only unveiled the tip of the iceberg; the story is long and weird.

We do not beg for justice from Pakistan: Dr. Allah Nazar Baloch

Dr. Allah Nazar Baloch, a Baloch independence leader and the head of the Balochistan Liberation Front, in his three series of tweets on the micro-blogging website “Twitter”, severely criticized Pakistan’s judiciary, parliament and media, and accused them of a conspiracy against the Baloch nation along with the Pakistani Army.

The Baloch leader has accused the parliament, judiciary, executive, media and the army to be on the same page as against the Baloch nation. He also tweeted that there is little hope of justice.

In another tweet, he said that Baloch parliamentary groups are unproductive and counter-revolutionary parties, as they have justified the brutality of the state. What they are doing was expected from day one. He has opined that the state institutions are committing the same atrocities that took place in Bangladesh.

Dr. Allah Nazar Baloch said that “we never beg for justice but the international community should realize its role in protecting the subjugated nations. Pakistan continues its brutality. Human rights organizations and international media houses must play their role”.

Pak Army bombard Pashtuns, injure father and daughter

A father along with his daughter were injured in the bombardment of the Pak Army in the Pashtun tribal area (Upper Ali Khel Jani Khel area of Bannu) while there are reports of injuries to the livestock as well.
Pakistani soldiers fired mortar shells and bullets on the village of Charwahs. This series of oppression continues. According to local sources, the local administration of Bannu does nothing and has become just a mere spectator. These so-called ‘incidents’ of state repression against the Pashtun nation have not diminished. Whenever people protest against state atrocities, they are targeted in some way.The Pakistani military and the ISI have pursued a policy of maintaining and spreading unrest in the Pashtun tribal areas so that they can use Islamic extremist ideologies on the hapless Pashtuns and turn them into suicide machines. But the flame of nationalism has been lit across Pashtunistan and the Pashtuns have now understood the gambit of Punjabi Pakistan Army and the ISI.

Armed men attack Karachi Police Headquarters, kill policemen

8 to 10 armed men attacked and have occupied the police head office located on Shaara Faisal in Karachi, the capital of Sindh. As per reports the shooting continued even after the attack.

According to official sources, around 10 armed men have occupied the police head office with suicide jackets and heavy weapons. Eyewitnesses have confirmed that there were loud sounds of firing and explosions and 30 people have been held hostage in the building. According to eyewitnesses, armed men came in a white car. Bombs have also been used. Karachi Police Chief Additional I.G. Sindh Javed Alam Odhu while talking to the media confirmed the attack and said “that my office has been attacked and firing is still going on”.

Pakistani Interior Minister Rana Sanaullah has said that the head of the Karachi police was not present in the building at the time of the attack and the number of attackers is said to be six to seven. Explosions were also heard outside the police office while the shooting continued. The lights of the police office have also been switched off.

Spokesman Sindh Rangers said in a statement that the Rangers QRF reached the spot and surrounded the area on the report of the attack on the Karachi Police Chief’s office.

Pakistanis face prospects of hunger as Sharif bows to IMF, hikes fuel prices

Hunger levels in Pakistan will further rise in the coming months. As the Shehbaz Sharif government thrashed out a harsh diktat–raising fuel prices to meet the International Monetary Fund’s (IMF) demands, the common people on the streets feel deceived. A litre of petrol in Pakistan now costs (Pakistani) Rs 272 – a historical high speed diesel (HSD) Rs 280 as Islamabad, which is facing a potential default, is now rushing against time to resume the IMF loan programme.

On Wednesday the price of petrol was raised by Rs 22.20 a litre at a single stroke, for HSD it is an increase by Rs 17.20. The price rise has already come into effect.

“The country’s political class is squarely responsible for the current condition but the unfortunate reality is that this class is the least impacted. The miseries of the poor in Pakistan are unparalleled,” a citizen who lives outside the country told India Narrative. “If you visit you will realise that thousands of people eat only one meal..they have no money to eat twice,” he said.

Pakistan is already reeling under high inflation. In January, the inflation rate already rose to 27.6 per cent up from 24.5 per cent in December– the highest reading since 1975 with a number of containers carrying food items and other raw materials getting stuck in the country’s ports due to non-payment.

Now the latest round of price hike will further push up inflation. Reports suggest that milk is now being sold at Rs 210 per litre.

Surging inflation is leaving less money in the hands of the people, especially the poor.

“You hear stories from doctors beginning to see adult malnutrition in adults who have given up two meals a day. You hear from teachers in schools saying that parents come and say ‘I have four children, can you tell me which one to keep in school? I cannot afford to pay the school fees for the other three,’” Uzair Younus, Director of the Atlantic Council’s Pakistan Initiative told Time magazine. Younus added that the miseries had started even before the devastating floods that hit Pakistan last year.

According to an estimate of the International Rescue Committee that was published last month, about 14.6 million people in Pakistan are in need of food assistance. This includes 8.6 million people who are experiencing an extreme level of food insecurity and are facing impossible decisions on how to cope, skipping meals and selling off assets, it said.

A senior economist with Moody’s Analytics said that in the first half of 2023, inflation in Pakistan may average 33 per cent before easing.
