J&K development projects gain momentum after Art 370 abrogation

On August 5, 2019 the Parliament of India through a valid constitutional process abrogated the draconian Article 370 and Article 35A of the Indian Constitution that had, since independence, created roadblocks in the seamless integration of the state of Jammu and Kashmir with the rest of India. Alongside, the parliament also bifurcated the state into two Union Territories (UT) of Jammu-Kashmir and Ladakh.

When the constitutional amendments were made, some elements from within and outside the state predicted widespread unrest and violence. Their predictions fell flat due to acceptance of the changes by the people quite happily. As it became apparent that the acceptance of the people was complete the restrictions imposed as a safety precaution were removed.  The state has witnessed a normal situation ever since.

The security situation in Jammu and Kashmir was well in control in 2019 when the constitutional amendments were promulgated, terrorism was contained due to the successful conduct of Operation All Out, internal security in terms of disruptions through stone pelting and lock out calls was also well controlled. This stable security condition was one big reason for the government to go ahead with the bold decision. Today the security situation is even better than the 2019 threshold; the era of stone pelting and disruption seems to be a thing of the past. A big blow to the cult of terrorism has been struck on July 31 with the killing of dreaded terrorist Abu Saifullah aka Lamboo in an encounter. Saifullah was a resident of Pakistan’s Punjab province and belonged to the Jaish-e-Mohammed terror group; he was the key conspirator of the 2019 Pulwama terror attack that killed 40 CRPF Jawans.

On social side the many segments of society like the West Pakistan refugees and the people of the Valmiki community who were being denied state citizenship under the restrictive Article 35A have since started receiving their domicile certificates. The biggest beneficiaries are the women of the state who now have a right on their property even if they marry a person from outside the state.

Over 100 central laws and nine constitutional amendments that the region was deprived of are now applicable in the UT. Around 55 social security schemes of the central government that were not valid in the state are now incorporated and running well.

On the political front a big achievement has been the successful conduct of the District Development Council (DDC) elections which were both fair and non-violent. The Panchayati Raj institution in the UT is now three-tiered and very active on ground. To give it a boost the government has doubled the district’s budget which is now Rs.12,000 crores. Districts are now working on integrated plans drawn out by elected representatives. Panchayati Raj institutions are ensuring development in remote villages. MGNREGA and PMAY have gone online with geo-tagging that has helped ensure timely disbursement of funds. At the state level new political setups like JK Apni Party (JKAP) are coming up to challenge the old guard. Such changes will be a breath of fresh air for the UT.

In a recent meeting with all parties of the UT, New Delhi has assured that elections will be held after the process of delimitation is completed. The Delimitation Commission recently visited the state which indicates that the task is being undertaken with urgency.

Jammu Kashmir has recorded a little more than 3 Lakh COVID cases with about 3,300 deaths, a considerably low number when compared to the national state average. Apparently, the pandemic was dealt well by the administration. The people too responded very positively and undertook prescribed precautions without complaint. This contributed tremendously in keeping the number of cases within manageable levels.

Those who got infected were given timely and professional treatment. To meet all contingencies, oxygen plants were flown in by the Indian Air Force from Germany and other places. Now every Panchayat has Oxygen supported beds and generation capacity of Oxygen stands at 60,000 MPI, 99% people of above 45 year age and 40% in the 18-40 age category have been vaccinated. This has been achieved despite the difficulty of vaccination in the remote areas, camps in such areas were organised with active support from the Indian Army.

The biggest achievement by far is provision of transparent and corruption free governance. Technology is ensuring timely service to the people; digital applications have been created to speed up the issue of domicile certificates, caste certificate, pension, scholarship etc.

The Lieutenant Governor of the UT Jammu Kashmir Manoj Sinha is known to travel across the region by road, stopping at many villages to meet the people to get to know their problems. Quite obviously the officers also have to make a commensurate effort. The Lt. Governor also takes weekly reviews and holds meetings with 20 people per district (chosen randomly) to address their problems on the spot.

With peace being ushered in the region, development work has also gained momentum. Ever since the change in status, almost all Union Ministers have visited the UT and sanctioned projects. Languishing projects have been fast tracked; railway networks, roads and flyovers are being built. Jammu Kashmir is slated to have two AIIMS level hospitals, two more government medical colleges and hospitals at Kathua and Handwara respectively, two IT parks, two Central Universities, IITs and IIMCs. Some are already functional and consolidating their excellence. New Delhi has earmarked Rs. 20,400 crore to give a boost to the new Industrial Policy. Land is being earmarked in almost all districts for setting up of industrial units.

Of note is the Super 75 scholarship scheme to support education of meritorious girls from poor families, Tejasvani scheme for young women entrepreneurs between 18-35 years of age who will get up to 5 Lakh financial assistance under Mission Youth, PMJAY Sehat under which all citizens of JK will get health insurance cover of 5 Lakh under the Prime Minister Jan Arogya Yojana. There are so many more such people centric projects being introduced.

There is a long distance to be covered before the wounds of the people of Jammu Kashmir inflicted by unfettered foreign sponsored violence and political opportunism are filled. The silver lining is that a beginning has been made. It can be said with all responsibility that the constitutional change was for the better even as challenges persist.

Afghanistan: Taliban advance poses security risk for India

Afghanistan, once again, is going through a very challenging phase marked by uncertainty. Even as the government of Afghanistan exudes confidence, there is news of the Taliban gaining ground and power across the country.

Reports emanating from the Indian Ministry of External Affairs (MEA) suggest that the Taliban is, as yet, contained in the southern areas and has control of about half the country including Kandhar, Helmand, Ghazni and Paktia. On the other hand there are media reports suggesting that many districts in the North and the North-West of Afghanistan are also in the control of the Taliban. The gravity of the situation can be gauged by the fact that the visit to India of the Afghan Army Chief, General Wali Mohammad Ahmadzai, scheduled for July 27, was cancelled due to the intensified offensive of the Taliban. In the absence of verifiable news and the fluidity of the evolving situation, it is difficult to predict the actual level of Taliban presence and the overall political situation in Afghanistan.

It is against this backdrop that the visit of US Secretary of State Antony Blinken to India on 27-28 July gains significance. It is notable that before meeting the Indian Foreign Minister S. Jaishankar on 28 July, Blinken held a meeting with the Indian National Security Advisor (NSA) Ajit Doval. Quite obviously they would have spoken about China, Pakistan and most importantly Afghanistan. Ajit Doval would have definitely raised the issue of “the need for sustained pressure on Pakistan to crack down on terror financing and terror modules.”

In his post meeting statements. Anthony Blinken summed up the US policy of Afghanistan as one of  “continued engagement” which implies that the US will not allow the Taliban a free run there. “We are very much engaged in the diplomacy of working to bring parties together at the table for the resolution of the conflict in Afghanistan,” he said.

Blinken also made it amply clear that India and the US will work together in resolving the Afghanistan imbroglio. “As a credible partner in the region, India has and will continue to make a vital contribution to Afghanistan’s stability and development,” he said in the press conference.

This automatically implies that the US will not allow its actions to pose a threat to India and in this regard an understanding has been reached.  Indian interests in the region will be kept in mind while dealing with the situation.

In an open cautionary note to Afghanistan Blinken said, “The Taliban is making advances in district centres, there are reports of them committing atrocities in Afghanistan. It’s deeply troubling. It certainly doesn’t speak well about their intention for the country.”

It is quite apparent that the US is unlikely to leave the country at the mercy of Pakistan’s Inter Services Intelligence (ISI) and Taliban. It is also quite clear that India will formally remain a part of the peace process.

India needs to be very alert and concerned about the presence of Islamic State — Khorasan Province (ISKP) also called Daesh within the fold of the Taliban. The organisation has old links with Tehreek-e-Taliban Pakistan (TTP), the Haqqani group and the ISI. ISI is responsible for giving ISKP a foothold in Afghanistan.

ISKP recruits fundamentalist resources from across the world for carrying out terrorism linked operations. It comprises a strong element of Pakistanis and has very close links with anti-India warlords like Hafiz Saeed. ISKP is a big threat to India since it manifests the probability of the Taliban coming back in Kashmir. The threat of Taliban extends to Punjab too where it could play a role in nurturing the ambitions and aspirations of the Khalistani elements. The Chief Minister of Punjab, Captain Amarinder Singh, and many other security experts have been voicing concern about this threat.

India has set out a policy of engaging all stakeholders in Afghanistan, including some segments of the Taliban. The Taliban, however, is a conglomeration of many pressure groups; even if India establishes a working relationship with some segments, the supreme leader can easily wash his hands off ISKP by saying that the organisation is not in his control. ISKP, thus, can be used effectively by the ISI to create trouble in Kashmir.

India needs to remain vigilant about the security threat that the situation in Afghanistan is posing. Her concerns have to be mentioned in all formal and informal discussions. It is very important to make Pakistan realise that by unleashing the Taliban on the region it will damage its own internal security apparatus and simultaneously face the wrath of the US, India and the international community. Pakistan must also realise that the Taliban poses a bigger threat to it and to its all time ally — China.

Taliban, on its part should realise that all countries neighbouring Afghanistan like Iran, Russia, China and Pakistan are looking at the country from the prism of self interest while India has always held the interest of the Afghan people paramount. India has been the largest donor to Kabul having given nearly $2 billion in reconstruction aid. The aid has been provided despite all sorts of roadblocks from Pakistan including denial of overland transit facilities which could have made things a lot easier. Taliban has further reasons to stay engaged with India in view of the assistance that the country can provide to it in gaining international legitimacy, something that Pakistan and China cannot do.

The end point is that India will need to keep her security concerns above all else while also staying engaged, along with the international community, in working towards the welfare of the Afghan people. The silver lining is that the inimical forces gathering around will not be able to dent the security apparatus now in place in Kashmir; most importantly the people of Kashmir will not let the Taliban enter their land and cause turmoil all over again. Taliban, on its part, should understand the importance of India for Afghanistan.

Afghanistan: Brief history of the current Taliban offensive

Afghanistan’s history spans centuries from the Ghaznavid era to the Hotak empires. As inheritors of ancient history, Afghanistan certainly had an inkling of the turn of events in the modern era, which is why the Afghan government refused to recognize Pakistan’s membership in the United Nations on September 30, 1947. Further, on July 17, 1973 the then President of Afghanistan, Sardar Mohammad Daud Khan, in his first radio address said, “Pashtunistan is the lost heritage of our forefathers …and it is an undeniable fact that the solution can only be according to the aspirations of Pashtuns. Let the world know that Afghanistan has no dispute with any country in the world except Pakistan… and Afghanistan will continue to make every effort to resolve this dispute.”

After Dawood Khan’s speech, the then President of Pakistan, Zulfiqar Ali Bhutto, ordered the deployment of Pakistani troops on the Afghan border and in the same month he set up an ‘Afghan Cell’ in Pakistan’s foreign ministry and appointed General Naseerullah Babar as chief of this cell to oversee Afghan affairs.

Afghanistan’s area which was taken away by the British colonialists against the will of Afghans and is known as the Durand Line, was later on handed over to the newly formed state of Pakistan. Here also the British took a step against the will of Afghans. It was an unnatural and illegal division, so the Afghan people have been resisting this division ever since it became public. As many as half a million Afghans have shed their blood till date due to the short sighted steps taken by British to destabilize the then Afghan government.

Pakistan was created by the British to further their interests. The main purpose of creating Pakistan was to stall the rapid spread of communism. In 1955, when the erstwhile Soviet Union tried to pave its way into Afghanistan, every effort was made to stop it.

British adopted their policy of divide and rule in Afghanistan as well. During their colonial rule the British had initiated a policy to destroy the Afghanistan’s secular society. So as a matter of this policy the British started promoting Afghan mullahs, and reaped short term rewards against the erstwhile Soviet Union.

However, in 1979 the Soviet Union assisted the Afghan government in rooting out the radical Islamic extremists called the Mujahideen. The Mujahideen were formed with the active involvement of Pakistan, the United States and its allies such as the Saudi government.

Pakistan created a network of madrassas and the Saudi government provided funds to run them, while the United States provided military equipment. During those days there was an unwritten agreement between Pakistan and the United States under which both the powers agreed to informally turn Afghanistan as the fifth province of Pakistan.

The prospect of Pakistan getting ‘ownership’ of an Afghanistan rich in minerals, along with the parts snatched through the farce called Durand Line, was nothing short of outright treachery. It is rather strange that United States and Saudi Arabia knowing that this unnatural state (Pakistan) was falling apart still went ahead to provide all kinds of material and logistical support. The biggest example about Pakistan falling apart came in merely twenty four years after its existence, when East Pakistan (now Bangladesh) won its independence from Islamabad in 1971. But this independence for Bangladesh’s Bengalis came after immense bloodshed. More than three million Bangladeshi Bengalis were martyred and thousands of Bengali women were brutally raped, but the Bengalis did not lose heart.

On December 16, 1971 when over 92,000 Pakistani soldiers surrendered before the Indian Army it was the dawn of a new nation, Bangladesh. The Bangladesh liberation war must have served as an eye opener for the world and Pakistan’s duplicitous face must have been visible to US, UK and Saudis. Unfortunately this did not happen. And Mujahideen continued to receive arms, ammunition and training in Pakistan through active help from the US and Saudis. The Mujahideen continued to flourish only to serve the parochial objective to halt Soviet Union’s involvement in Afghanistan. The military trained Mujahideen along with the large number of students graduating from Pakistan’s madrasas were sent to Afghanistan to fight the Soviet forces. Saudi Arabia instilled Wahabism while the United States armed these radical Mujahids. Afghan nationalists tried to fight back all these forces but with active involvement of imperialist powers they continued to suffer. Pakistan planted radical Islamists and madrasa educated extremists across Afghanistan.

After the fall of Soviet Union and their retreat from Afghanistan, it is these Mujahideen that were re-branded as Taliban.

Earlier, this nefarious game of sponsoring bloodbath in Afghanistan was in the name of Mujahideen movement, but after Soviet Union retreated this game was re-started in the name of Taliban. The Taliban, buoyed with the backing of Pakistan’s military establishment massacred thousands of Afghans on the streets of Kabul. Soon the Taliban brutally murdered Afghanistan’s nationalist leader and the then Afghan President Dr. Najib (Mohammad Njibullah).

After the martyrdom of Dr. Najib, the Pakistan-backed Taliban government was established in Afghanistan, but even then Afghanistan continued to struggle against these Pakistani proxies (Taliban) under the leadership of Ahmad Shah Massoud. With the establishment of Taliban government in 1992, the Taliban succeeded in capturing most parts of Afghanistan. By the year 2001, except for a few areas such as Panjshir that still held forth against the Taliban, Pakistan-backed Taliban had taken full control of Afghanistan.

However, the 9/11 attack on Twin Towers at New York changed the world. The United States blamed Al-Qaeda for the attacks, which is another radical Islamic terrorist organisation. At this time the Soviet Union had disintegrated and access to Central Asian Republics (CAR) was urgently needed to prevent a resurgence of the Soviet Union. The central Asian states are rich in minerals, and by becoming the custodian of the region, the United States would be able to fulfill its dream of controlling almost the entire world, including Russia and China.

Soon US invaded Afghanistan, but even after the US invasion, Pakistan continued to nurture military training camps and also increase its network of madrassas for newer recruitment of Taliban.

At present when the United States and its allies are withdrawing from Afghanistan after 20 years of bloody war, we see the Taliban’s military operations intensifying day by day such that they have already taken control of a large area of Afghanistan. Afghanistan President Ashraf Ghani recently said that more than 10,000 Taliban terrorists had entered Afghanistan from Pakistan. And this number continues to swell.

Recently when the Taliban captured Spin Boldak it was through direct assistance from the Pakistani forces. Amrullah Saleh, Afghanistan’s vice president said in his tweet that Pakistan had threatened air strikes against Afghanistan. Despite all odds, the Afghan governments’ forces regained control of Spin Boldak.

Apart from the military support the Pakistani state is also providing other logistical and medical facilities to the Taliban. So the Taliban terrorists who are wounded in the ongoing battle with Afghan security forces are treated in Pakistani hospitals. Pakistan also makes arrangements for the Taliban to bury their dead in parts of Balochistan that belong to the Pashtun tribes.

Recently, the Afghan government handed over 39 bodies to the Red Cross from different parts of Pakistan.

Whether it is the madrassas used against Afghanistan, the attacks on Afghans living across the Durand Line and other nations who are being made scapegoats in the name of religion, the Pakistani state is directly involved in all these operations. All this evidence must open the eyes of the world, yet the world has closed its eyes and refuses to offer any help to war torn country, Afghanistan.

The world should have taken strict action against the rogue Pakistan Army so that peace could be established in the world, yet all civilized nations look the other way and behave as if Pakistan is their close relative and the lives of millions of Afghans do not matter. If the world had not recognized the existence of Pakistan in 1947, there would have been no terrorist organisations such as Lashkar-e-Taiba and Jaish-e-Mohammed, Kashmir would not have been burnt, the blood of three million Bengalis would not have been shed, there would not have been daily mourning in every house of Balochistan, nor would innocent Afghans have been killed by the Taliban.

Imran Khan’s PTI backs Taliban terrorist Mazhar Shah for POK reserved seat

Imran Khan’s political outfit Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) is backing a former head of Afghanistan Taliban for a reserved seat– Ulema-e-Mashaikh– in the legislative assembly of Pakistan-occupied Kashmir (POK) to further Rawalpindi’s strategy of spreading Islamic extremism across Jammu Kashmir and Ladakh. Mazhar Shah Saeed alias Abdullah Shah Mazhar was the Taliban chief in Afghanistan’s province, who along with PTI’s POK secretary general Abdul Majeed Khan filed the nomination papers on PTI’s ticket for the seat of Ulema-e-Mashaikh.

Mazhar Shah Saeed alias Abdullah Shah Mazhar hails from the Lawat area of Neelam Valley. He lived in Karachi for a long time where he served as the Khatib in a local mosque. In the past, Mazhar Saeed Shah was actively involved in the ‘Afghan Jihad’ and has also held important positions in a province of Afghanistan in the Taliban hierarchy since the fall of Dr. Najib’s (Mohammad Najibullah) government in Kabul. Mazhar Saeed started his ‘jihadi’ journey from the banned terrorist organisation Harkat-ul-Mujahideen and later on held important positions in another banned terror outfit Jaish-e-Muhammad under the tutelage of Maulana Masood Azhar.

Mazhar Shah Saeed was banned in several regions for his provocative speeches. After his provocative speech in Neelam Valley went viral on social media he was included in the category of hate speech personalities by several social media platforms.

In 2008, a terrorist named Riaz Hussain was killed during operations by the Indian security forces on the Indian side of Jammu and Kashmir. This terrorist Riaz Hussain was operating under the instructions of Mazhar Saeed Shah, who in turn was connected with the Islamic extremists of Jaish-e-Muhammad from Pakistan’s Sindh province.

In 2001, Al-Furqan was created after the United States added Jaish-e-Muhammad and other organizations to its list of terrorist organizations. Mazhar Saeed Shah was also a part of this Al-Fuqran. Later, Mazhar Saeed Shah had differences with Maulana Masood Azhar, after which he formed an organization called Tehreek-e-Ghalba-e-Islam. In 2011 he joined the Jamiat Ulema-e-Islam and contested the elections in Pakistan-occupied Kashmir from Neelam Valley, but lost.

Recently, radical Islamic extremist Maulana Fazlur Rehman’s visit to Neelam Valley was hosted by Mazhar Shah Saeed.

When Pakistan Army announced the July 26 elections in POK, Mazhar Saeed announced that he was joining the Muslim Conference. However, when Mazhar Saeed was denied a ticket, he went ahead to join the All Jammu and Kashmir Jamiat Ulema-e-Islam Mahmood Al-Hassan group. This organization was formed by rebelling against Maulana Fazlur Rehman.

Immediately after this Mazhar Saeed Shah was made chairman of the party’s parliamentary board, but no candidate could make it to the finals. Then Mazhar Saeed Shah once again cozied up to Fazlur Rehman and installed the flags of Jamiat Ulema-e-Islam (Fazlur Rehman group) and Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) on his car. Mazhar Saeed is now very close to Fazlur Rehman.

Interestingly, Mazhar Saeed has been missing for some time. He was rumoured to be in the custody of authorities, but after a long period of detention he was released after becoming physically very weak.

Mazhar Saeed Shah’s elder brother Mufti Abul Baba Shah Manzoor (real name Tahir Shah) is a teacher in Jamia Al-Rasheed, Karachi. Jihadis who started writing about extremism from Pakistan after the establishment of the Taliban government in Afghanistan are among the regular writers of the weekly magazine Zarb-e-Momin. Mufti Abul Baba Shah Mansoor has also written several books including ‘Dajjal’.

The nomination of radical Islamic extremist such as Mazhar Saeed Shah for the reserved seat of Ulema-e-Mashaykh in Pakistan-occupied Kashmir (POK) reflects the thinking of Rawalpindi and Islamabad. Readers must remember that Imran Khan has been accused of being an open supporter of Taliban in the past, which earned him the title ‘Taliban Khan’.

Statements made by Federal Foreign Minister Shah Mehmood Qureshi and other government officials following Taliban’s advance after the US withdrawal from Afghanistan, as well as news released by the state news agency has further softened Islamabad’s attitude towards Taliban.

It’s clear that Rawalpindi and Islamabad have made it a state policy to unleash Islamic extremists in Pakistan-occupied Kashmir and in Gilgit-Baltistan in order to disturb the peace and harmony on Indian side of Jammu Kahmmir and Ladakh. If this spread of Islamic extremism is not nipped in the bud then the oppressed, downtrodden and working class people of Jammu Kashmir and Ladakh will bear the brunt and be the victims of mindless violence. The ruling classes have benefited from every crisis, including Islamic terrorism, barbarism, destruction, devastation and natural disasters. The sufferers, if any, are only the working and middle class.

The intelligentsia and civil society members of Pakistan-occupied Kashmir (POK) say that the main tactic of Pakistan Army is to destroy the culture and identity of Kashmiris by cultivating the Taliban. If this happens then not only the Pakistan-occupied Kashmir (POK) will be affected but also the Indian side of Jammu Kashmir and Ladakh will be affected by terrorism.

BLF releases Jan-Jun ’21 report, pledges to free Balochistan from Pakistan

The core reason for establishment of Balochistan Liberation Front (BLF) has always been to reinstate the separate Baloch identity and regain motherland’s sovereignty from the occupier Pakistan. With its establishment, BLF, along with armed struggle, began to create political and ideological awareness about the Baloch nation and has endeavored to bring Baloch people from all walks of life together to join the armed struggle, so that the masses consciously, politically and ideologically get involved in the resistance. Because, the struggle for independence is impossible without the participation of masses.

On the fundamental principle of freedom for occupied Balochistan, BLF is educating the Baloch nation to be ideologically and politically aware. Ideologically motivated BLF fighters, along with armed resistance are expanding the independence struggle with political awareness across Balochistan.

Baloch nation is now destroying the occupying Pakistan state’s army and responding in a befitting manner to their parliamentarian tools, death squads, religious extremists including countering the occupying state’s propaganda machinery and its fake narrative.

Organization’s fundamental principle is to ensure vetting and educating BLF fighters enough so that the weapon in their hands must remain a weapon in the hands of a revolutionary and their steps may never sway defending motherland.

Today, across the length and breadth of Pakistan-occupied Balochistan, BLF’s brave fighters are present on the ground with their revolutionary weapon in defense of their country against Pakistan’s regular army and other security forces. Certainly, fighting on various fronts at once against Pakistan Army, federalists, local agents, informers, death squads, drug dealers and religious extremists is difficult. But at every given moment, BLF fighters are sacrificing their lives and vigorously leading the Baloch national struggle on the principles of the organization towards the ultimate goal.

BLF releases its Jan-June 2021 report card against the atrocities of Pakistan Army and its rogue intelligence agency ISI. BLF’s activities are published by Ashoob– the Baloch media conglomerate.

During the first six months of 2021, the Balochistan Liberation Front (BLF) carried out eighty five lethal attacks on the occupying Pakistani forces and their facilitators. In these attacks more than ninety four Pakistani soldiers were killed and several dozens were injured injured. In one such attack the BLF sarmachaars (freedom fighters) targeted Pakistani State Oil tanker and inflicted heavy causalities to the tanker and it’s crew.

Also over the last six months BLF targeted and killed ten members of Pakistan-backed Death Squad. There were also attacks on the military construction company Frontier Works Organization (FWO) near Turbat Airport Chowk while they were building a road. The attack damaged the machineries and the operators were injured. BLF sarmachaars also attacked a military backed drug dealer and three from the Chinese telecommunication company (Zong). BLF also targeted a Chinese national in Lyari, Karachi who was on government parole and was on a field tour for Sindh Solid Waste Management Board (SSWMB).

BLF sarmachaars (freedom fighters) attack Pakistani forces and Chinese nationals as Pakistan and China are blatantly looting the natural resources of Balochistan and simultaneously exploit Baloch people. Rapes, target killings, abductions and other human rights violation is commonplace across Balochistan. The Baloch people have been fighting for independence from Pakistan’s illegal occupation since 1948.

POK erupts in protest after Pak Army’s July 26 election fraud

July 26 is the date when Rawalpindi conducted yet another fraud with the Kashmiris of POK (Pakistan-occupied Kashmir). This was the date when the sham elections were conducted in POK to “select” all those people who were handpicked by the top echelon of Pakistan Army to rule over the local Kashmiris. Everything was pre-decided and elections were conducted only to ratify what the Rawalpindi generals had already decided about the portion of Jammu and Kashmir still in their illegal occupation.

The number of registered voters in POK is 3.2 million. Only about 15 to 20% POK Kashmiris stepped out to cast their vote under intense pressure from Pakistan military. However, Islamabad is pegging the total vote cast at around 50%. This inflated voting percentage was achieved only because the Pakistan Army personnel facilitated bogus votes across all the centres.

Here’s some of the facts and figures about POK election results:
* The vote percentage of Imran Khan’s political outfit Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) was 32.5% and it was given 25 seats. In absolute numbers PTI received 619,590 votes, despite all the systematic rigging.
* PML-N (Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz) got 491,091 votes. PML-N’s vote percentage was 25.65% and it was given 6 seats by the Pakistan Army.
* Similarly, PPP (Pakistan Peoples Party) got 349,895 votes and their vote percentage was 18.28%. The Pakistan Army has given this political outfit a total of 11 seats.

Even if we look at the official voting figures then out of 3.2 million Kashmiri voters only about 0.6 million voted for Imran Khan’s PTI (Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf). And if the actual voting is taken into account then it becomes clear that only a tiny fraction of Kashmiri voters voted for the PTI. A large number of Kashmiri voters defied Pakistan Army and did not come out to vote, rather they flatly refused to vote.

Election Frauds

POK’s head of election commission came to the polling station in the car of a PTI candidate with ballot boxes. This PTI candidate was Sardar Tanveer, a big businessman who at present is the advisor to Chief Minister of Punjab. Sardar Tanveer had struck Rs 100 crore deal with ISI’s Kashmir and Gilgit-Baltistan Sector Commander Brigadier Naeem Malik to be appointed as the Prime Minister of Kashmir (POK). Sardar Tanveer then paid Rs 10 crore as advance money to Brigadier Naeem Malik. But somehow this deal came out in public and then the Pakistan Army Chief Qamar Javed Bajwa removed Brigadier Naeem Malik and replaced him with Brigadier Nadeem to win the trust of Kashmiris that he was in favor of transparent elections.

Kashmiris protest after July 26 polling

After the polling was over the Frontier Corps personnel started misbehaving with local Kashmiris women, which was strongly resisted by the locals. At Sharda, Neelam Valley these FC personnel forcibly removed women and children from local vehicles and confiscated their vehicles. When the local administration and the Kashmiris asked FC personnel to stop, the FC personnel opened fire due to which one local Kashmiri was killed and thirteen others were injured.

This incident coupled with numerous reports of molestation by the Pakistan military personnel led to massive protests. Angry Kashmiris closed the Sharda, Neelam Road by burning tyres and started shouting slogans against the Pakistan Army. Slogans against Pakistan Army and Imran Khan were also raised in other areas of POK. Kashmiris also chanted slogans for the independence of Kashmir. The administration, however, sided with the Pakistan Army and the Kashmiris were beaten up, arrested and tortured.

Kashmiri civil society has strongly condemned the killing of innocent Kashmiris by Pakistani FC and demanded immediate arrest of Pakistan FC personnel. It is for the first time in seventy years that POK has erupted in open protests against the misrule of Pakistan Army. For the first time, slogans of Pakistan Murdabad were raised in several areas of POK and in Neelam Valley.

Several Kashmiri student leaders were imprisoned before these elections (many are still in prison on different charges) so that the voice of the people could be silenced. Hatred against Pakistan Army in POK is at a historic high. Never before had POK Kashmiris been so much against Pakistan and Pakistan Army, in particular.

Kashmiris protest against Pakistan Army’s barbarism in Neelam Valley after POK elections

On July 26, Pakistan Army conducted sham elections in POK to “select” their candidates. Soon after voting closed the Pakistani Frontier Corps (FC) personnel forcibly took away local vehicles and misbehaved with the women. This was vehemently resisted by the Kashmiris. In response the Pakistan Frontier Corps personnel opened fire and killed one Kashmiri and injured thirteen others. After this the Kashmiris started raising slogans against Pakistan Army and soon massive protests erupted across Neelam Valley in Pakistan-occupied Kashmir (POK).

Pakistan has a direct hand in Afghanistan crisis and chaos

The irony of fate is that a country whose people have defended their freedom for centuries through sweat and blood has now become the battleground for the actors of the old “Great Game” directly or through proxies. Those who fought and drove away the intruders have now fallen apart like hungry wolves seeking one another’s blood. Some say that Afghanistan is the last theatre of several centuries’ old ideological war between the diehard Islamic orthodoxy and modernism.

Withdrawal of the US and NATO troops from Afghanistan, in no less ignominious a manner than the withdrawal of the Soviets in 1990, leaves behind a trail of uncertainties and also the looming threat of unimaginable catastrophe. The unsparing hand of history has exposed the immaturity and arrogance of both world powers in dealing with Afghanistan, the proverbial graveyard of the big powers.

The Soviets were aware of the intrepidity of Afghans in resisting southward push of Marxist ideology across the Oxus (Amu Darya) and beyond the Badakhshan Mountain. But unfortunately, intoxicated with the victory over Nazism, the Soviets did not show patience for formulating a workable option of pursuing their objective in the resolutely independent tribal state of Afghanistan. They had thought that the superficial groundwork done by a feigned leftist group would serve their purpose of reaching the warm waters of the Indian Ocean. History proved them wrong.

The policy of invoking Islamism, theoretically as well as militarily, for realizing political objective of forcing a disgraceful retreat on the Soviets in Afghan war was tantamount to playing with fire. American policy planners did not visualize the long-term consequences of arming the time-hardened Afghan fighters steeped in the conservatism of middle ages. It cost the US not only nearly five thousand precious lives of her soldiers fighting against the mujahedeen, the legions they had deeply patronized now become the auxiliary to Al-Qaeda and Taliban, but also several trillions of dollars to run the anti-Taliban war machine for two decades, and finally, take to their heels from Bagram air base at the dead of night leaving everything behind.

Thus, in a bid to show down the Soviets, the Americans added an unprecedented chapter of terror and bloodshed to the world history in the name of service to democracy, leaving the beleaguered and innocent people in vulnerable parts of the globe to be decimated and destroyed by a surge of Theo-fascism many times more devastating than communism.

The US has now dragged its feet from war-torn Afghanistan leaving the nationalist Afghans and pro-democracy forces in a quandary. Not only the people and the administrative machinery in Afghanistan are cast on the horns of dilemma, even the neighbouring states like India, Iran, Tajikistan, Uzbekistan and the Russian Federation are seriously watching the situation. The speed with which the Taliban are capturing strategic locations and border crossing points indicates that Kabul may capitulate sooner than later.

The Taliban claim they are in control of 85 per cent of Afghan territory. Many countries have already recalled the staff in their missions in Afghanistan. India has also withdrawn its diplomatic staff from Kabul. The national forces are fighting the Taliban bravely but we don’t think that retiring Americans have left behind for them any strong and decisive resistance mechanism to ensure that the government in Kabul does not collapse. The Afghans are left to fend for themselves.

It is obvious that President Ashraf Ghani will appeal friendly countries and also the countries wedded to democratic ideology to come to the help of the beleaguered Afghan nation. But no country seems ready to promise military support in given situation because the situation is too complicated and problematic. It has international ramifications.

The Taliban have issued warning that no country should take the risk of offering military support to the national government in Kabul and if any country makes a venture like that, it will have to face serious consequences.

On the eve of Tashkent conference the Afghan Vice President has accused Pakistan of threatening to fire missiles and destroy the Afghan fighter jets if the latter try to bombard Spin Boldak border crossing. President Ashraf Ghani has repeated the charge to which Imran Khan has said that these charges are baseless and regrettable.

Collapse of Kabul regime and return of Taliban to power will be a major setback to democracies in the Asian region. Although the Taliban have made it clear more than once that they do not carry their fight to countries outside Afghanistan, yet Taliban’s long association with Al-Qaeda and ISIS have the potential to change the ground situation irrespective of what the Afghan Taliban would say. There are undeniable proofs with the stakeholders that show Pakistan’s clandestine role in boosting the morale of the Afghan Taliban not only in theory but in practice as well. The evidence available is good enough to change to course of events and put Afghan crisis on a new trajectory.

BBC has been able to lay its hand on a secret report of NATO which has now been brought into the public domain. Coming at a sensitive time in Pakistan-NATO relations, the report notes that the Taliban in Afghanistan are being directly assisted by Pakistani security services. The leaked report, derived from thousands of interrogations, claims that the Taliban remain defiant and have wide support among the Afghan people. Indeed, it is painful reading for the international forces and the Afghan government.

A Pakistani foreign ministry spokesman called the accusations “ridiculous”. “We are committed to non-interference in Afghanistan and expect all other states to strictly adhere to this principle,” Abdul Basit told the BBC. He added, “A stable and peaceful Afghanistan is in our own interests. We cannot indulge in any activity which takes us away from achieving that objective.”

The report alleges that Pakistan knows the location of senior Taliban leaders. “We have long been concerned about ties between elements of the ISI (Pakistan’s intelligence service) and some extremist networks,” said US Pentagon spokesman Captain John Kirby, adding that the US Defence Department had not yet seen the report.

The BBC’s Quentin Somerville in Kabul says the report — on the state of the Taliban — fully exposes for the first time the relationship between the ISI and the Taliban. It is based on material from 27,000 interrogations with more than 4,000 captured Taliban, Al-Qaeda and other foreign fighters and civilians. Pakistan’s manipulation of the Taliban senior leadership continues unabatedly. It says that Pakistan is aware of the locations of senior Taliban leaders. “Senior Taliban representatives, such as Nasiruddin Haqqani, maintain residences in the immediate vicinity of ISI headquarters in Islamabad,” it said. It quotes a senior Al-Qaeda detainee as saying: “Pakistan knows everything. The Taliban are not Islam. The Taliban are Islamabad.”

BBC correspondent says the report seems to suggest that the Taliban feel trapped by ISI control and fear they will never escape its influence. However, it states: “As this document is derived directly from insurgents it should be considered informational and not necessarily analytical.”

Adm Mike Mullen, former chairman of the US Joint Chiefs of Staff, has explained Pakistan’s closeness to the Afghan Taliban by pointing to infiltration of its army by the religious right, but he also says it is part of a grand strategy to increase leverage in the region via “proxies”.

Despite NATO’s strategy to secure the country with Afghan forces, the secret document details widespread collaboration between the insurgents and Afghan police and military. Lt Col Jimmie Cummings, a spokesman for NATO’s International Security Assistance Force (ISAF) in Afghanistan, said the document was “a classified internal document that is not meant to be released to the public”.

The report also depicts the depth of continuing support among the Afghan population for the Taliban. It paints a picture of Al-Qaeda’s influence diminishing but the Taliban’s influence increasing. Gen. Jack Keane, former US Army vice chief of staff commented: “They (Pakistan) provide resources, sanctuary… and training”

In a devastating conclusion, the document says that in the last year there has been unprecedented interest, even from members of the Afghan government, in joining the Taliban cause. It adds: “Afghan civilians frequently prefer Taliban governance over the Afghan government, usually as a result of government corruption.” The report has evidence that the Taliban are purposely hastening NATO’s withdrawal by deliberately reducing their attacks in some areas and then initiating a comprehensive hearts-and-minds campaign.

It says that in areas where ISAF (International Security Assistance Force) has withdrawn, Taliban influence has increased, often with little or no resistance from government security forces. And in many cases, with the active help of the Afghan police and army.

The report says that surrender is far from their collective mind-set. “For the moment, they believe that continuing the fight and expanding Taliban governance are their only viable courses of action.”

According to the report, rifles, pistols and heavy weapons have been sold by Afghan security forces in bazaars in Pakistan.

The report adds that Taliban members “do not receive salaries or other financial incentives for their work”, but their operations are funded by the narcotics trade and they frequently take a cut from the trade. Their main revenue, though, is from donations, and they travel around the country from door to door making no secret of their affiliation, it says.

This then is the grim picture of Afghanistan and the role Pakistan is playing. The only change that is perceptible is that the Taliban chief has, in a recent statement, once again reiterated that he prefers a dialogue and an agreed solution of Afghan crisis. Ashraf Ghani government has deputed a team to Doha to engage the Taliban in bilateral talks. Several rounds of bilateral talks have been held but so far no concrete result has been achieved. A bilateral agreement between the two delegations is the right solution.

Kargil: Do not lament the death of a warrior in battlefield, they are honoured in Heaven

The fifth round of conflict between India and Pakistan was fought in the heights of Kargil. Code named Operation Vijay, it lasted for 83 days, starting from May 3, 1999 and ended on July 26, 1999. This short and intense war ended with a decisive victory for India. When a unilateral ceasefire was declared by the Indian Prime Minister Atal Bihari Vajpayee, there was actually no enemy left to fight against. Those who had intruded and occupied the heights were mostly killed while the remaining few set out on a difficult journey back home where they faced ignominy and humiliation. Prime Minister Vajpayee publicly admired the valour and determination of Indian Armed Forces and declared Operation Vijay a glorious victory as the Line of Control ( LOC) had been restored.

The story of Kargil is one of deceit and treachery by one person, General Pervez Musharraf, the then Chief of Pakistan Army. To satisfy his personal ego and ambition he launched Operation Koh Paima (as he named the Kargil intrusion) without the knowledge of the then Prime Minister of Pakistan, Nawaz Sharif. It was executed by a few sycophant Generals working under General Pervez Musharraf and were commanding the formations at Gilgit-Baltistan.

Operation Koh Paima was already underway when the Lahore declaration was being signed between the prime ministers of India and Pakistan as a consequence of the “Bus Diplomacy” initiated by PM Vajpayee on 21 February 1999.

Detection of the intrusions was done by a few shepherds and commanders on ground were informed about the presence of armed elements wearing Salwar-Kameez in the heights. The Pakistani plan was to pass off the intruders as Mujahedeen. By beginning May it was clear that the intruders were well equipped trained soldiers of the Pakistan Army of a Division minus strength who had occupied three pockets from Mushkoh and Dras to Yaldar. They were entrenched and had artillery support.

On achieving clarity, the Indian Army went in for the quick mobilisation and put in place two divisions for the attack to retrieve the positions. Thus started the Kargil War. There were initial setbacks when a patrol led by Captain Saurabh Kalia, 4 JAT, was taken prisoner of war on May 3, 1999 and  later killed brutally.

The response of the Indian Army was ferocious. 8 SIKH recaptured Point 4256; Point 4440 and 16 Grenadiers captured Point 4480 by 16 May 1999. The government sanctioned the use of Indian Air Force on 26 May which launched Operation Safed Sagar with Mirage 2000 aircraft that ruled the skies with devastating effect. Five Regiments of 155mm Bofors guns reached the war zone and demolished enemy fortifications. Tololing and Point 4590 were captured on 13 June; Point 4760, Black Rock, 3 pimples were captured on 29 June. The battle for Tiger Hill was won after great effort and sacrifice.

Nawaz Sharif rushed to the USA to solicit assistance. The same day Muskoh and Dras area were recaptured and cleared. From 12 July to 18 July, withdrawal of Pakistan troops was permitted. Finally, Zulu Spur was taken on 24 July and sanctity of the LOC was restored. On 26 July 1999, Indian PM declared that Operation Vijay was over. The cost of victory was high, 22 officers, 21 JCOs and 452 brave soldiers of India made the supreme sacrifice. Pakistan lost almost 1200 soldiers.

While the complete saga of courage and devotion to duty cannot be recounted it is being exemplified here by taking note of a few such stories of valour.

Captain Vikram Batra, PVC (Posthumous)
Known as Sher Shah in the Kargil War, Captain Vikram Batra, was commissioned into 13 Jammu Kashmir Rifles on 6 December 1997. He therefore had less than two years service when he went into war. His Battalion was tasked to regain Point 5140, for which he volunteered and chose “Dil Maange More” as the success password which later became folklore. His team captured the heavily defended feature.

There was heavy fire coming from  the neighbouring height Point 4875, the commanding officer Lt. Col. YK Joshi who is now a Lieutenant General and commanding the elite Northern Command appreciated the need for its immediate capture. He detailed another company for the attack but Captain Vikram Batra insisted on going in since he was already quite near to the objective. He convinced his commanding officer and went for the assault on Point 4875. He led the advance without care for his personal safety and was hit by a volley of Light Machine Gun fire. He crawled to the bunker profusely bleeding and lobbed a grenade thus silencing the enemy. The Indian Tricolour was soon placed on  Point 4875 and sanctity of the LOC was restored in the Dras sector. Point 4875 has been renamed “Batra Top.” His farewell words to his commanding officer were, “either l will come back after hoisting the Tricolour, or will come back wrapped in it, but l will come back for sure”

Captain Manoj Kumar Pandey, PVC (Posthumous)
Lieutenant Manoj Pandey was commissioned into 1/11 Gorkha Rifles in 1998. He went to war with less than one year of service. He was instrumental in dislodging a firmly entrenched enemy in the Kalubar Hill and Jabuar Top of the Yaldar Sector. Young Manoj led the assault personally under cover of darkness and got into hand to hand conflict with his Khukhri. The team cleared some parts but while heading for Jabuar Top it got day-lighted. Due to heavy fire he sustained multiple bullet injuries but continued firing and motivating his assaulting troops. Finally, Kalubar and Jabuar were captured even as Lieutenant Manoj Pandey died a hero. He was promoted as Captain and awarded the Param Vir Chakra.

Lieutenant Yogender Singh Yadav, PVC
Grenadier YS Yadav moved with his unit 18 Grenadiers to Kargil Dras sector in early June 1999. The unit was tasked to capture Tololing Top on 10 June 1999. The height of the feature was 16,800 feet and it had near zero temp even in summer. The assault was launched on 12 June. Yogender Yadav was the leading scout of the commando platoon that took a rear cliff approach and climbed with the help of slithering ropes. Once upon the enemy, he lobbed a grenade from the rear and killed all in the bunker. While neutralising the second position he was hit by several bullets but he kept crawling forward. His platoon was reduced to half but he did not give up. Finally he killed four Pakistani soldiers with another grenade and the Tololing bastion came into Indian hands. This was the first Indian victory of the war. Grenadier Yogender Yadav was evacuated by Air to Army Hospital, Delhi almost dead, but he survived. He is presently serving in Indian Army in the rank of Honorary Lieutenant.

Rifleman Sanjay Kumar, PVC
Rifleman Sanjay Kumar, was enrolled into 13 Jammu Kashmir Rifles in 1996. The battalion under Lt. Colonel (now Lt. General) YK Joshi had moved to Muskoh sub sector in Dras. For the assault on Point 4875 (later Batra Top) Rifleman Sanjay Kumar along with his buddy were the leading scouts. The team came under heavy fire and Sanjay told his buddy to give covering fire while he charged at the post. He was hit on the shoulder and fell down but continued crawling forward and entered the enemy fortification where he killed the enemy in close combat.

Despite bleeding profusely Rifleman Sanjay Kumar rushed to the next fortification which surprised the enemy who abandoned their position. Having finished his ammunition, he picked up an abandoned enemy machine gun and shot dead the fleeing soldiers. Thus Area Flat Top was captured and this helped in the capture of Point 4875.

There are so many soldiers who made supreme sacrifices or were severely wounded for the safety and integrity of the Nation. Ten infantry battalions were also awarded Battle Honour and the title of ‘Bravest of the Brave.’  We salute our War heroes, especially those who did not come back.

“Do not lament the death of a warrior in battlefield, they are honoured in Heaven.”

Kargil War 1999: Scenario then, and now

Kargil Vijay Divas celebrations have commenced across the country; these events are held by Indian Army and civilians across the country to commemorate the great Indian victory in the Kargil heights against Pakistani troops that coveted to seize the mountains duplicitously.

The Indian Army began operations on May 3, 1999 and in less than three months, removed the Pakistani troops from the positions that they had occupied. Final and comprehensive victory was declared on July 26, 1999. The enemy either lay dead or was compelled to retreat back.

This year, as one joins the celebration, thoughts go back to two soldiers, one from the Pakistan Army and the other from the Indian Army, who fought the war.

One of them now lies in a bed in foreign shores, wracked with disease, exiled from his own nation, cold, embittered and without friends. He is General Pervez Musharraf, the then Chief of Army Staff of Pakistan Army who ordered the intrusions in accordance with a plan that he had conceived while a Brigadier serving in the area.

The second, an Indian soldier then a Lieutenant Colonel who led his battalion to glory in the war is today an Army Commander of the same command under which he fought the war. He is Lt. General Yogesh Kumar Joshi, UYSM, AVSM, VrC, SM, ADC, who led his parent battalion, the 13 Jammu and Kashmir Rifles to a glorious victory in the Dras sector. His battalion among other feats captured Point 4875 which is now called Batra Top after Captain Vikram Batra, PVC, (Posthumous) who fell in battle and became a hero for all times to come; his war cry during the Kargil war ‘Yeh Dil Maange More’ caught the fancy of the nation and is a motivating slogan for the youth even today.

The 13 Jammu and Kashmir Rifles under Lt. General (then Lt. Colonel) YK Joshi was awarded more than twenty five gallantry medals during Kargil War including two Param Vir Chakras, eight Vir Chakras (including him) and fourteen Sena Medals apart from being conferred with the title of the ‘Bravest Of the Brave.’ The second PVC  was awarded to Rifleman Sanjay Kumar.

This year, Lt. General YK Joshi, in a befitting tribute to his officer (Captain Vikram Batra) and to his Battalion flew over “Batra Top” in a Sukhoi-30 MK to commemorate their feats of bravery. The gesture was symptomatic of the enduring relation between a Commanding Officer and his command, his officers and his men who responded to his orders with such elan. It was also an apt recognition of the contribution of the Indian Air Force during the war.

General Musharraf caused so much bloodshed on both sides and sent his troops to certain death only to assuage his ego. He was egged on by his sycophantic juniors despite the plan being tactically unsound to the extent that the operation was kept a secret even from the political leadership of the country including the Prime minister, Nawaz Sharif. The chiefs of Pakistan Air Force and Navy and even the Inter Services Intelligence (ISI) had no knowledge of the operation.

With General Pervez Musharraf in evolving the plan code named Operation Koh Paima, was Lt General Aziz Khan, Chief of General Staff of the Pakistan Army and Second-in-Command to General Pervez Musharraf; Lt. General Mahmud Ahmed, General Officer Commanding of the Pakistan 10 Corps under which comes the Force Command Northern Area (FCNA) deployed in Pakistan occupied Gilgit-Baltistan and Major General Javed Hasan, General Officer Commanding of the FCNA. They are now referred to as the “Kargil Clique.” The worst aspect of their plan was that it did not cater for logistics or the safe withdrawal of the men sent in. It was based on a mindless misconception that the Indian Army would not respond. The soldiers sent in, all from the Northern Light Infantry (NLI) manned by troops from Gilgit-Baltistan were used as cannon fodder. This also indicates the very low regard that Pakistan Army had for the lives of the NLI troops.

General Musharraf saved his skin at that time by staging a coup and then remained a military dictator for almost a decade. Justice caught up with him in 2019 when a Pakistani court sentenced him to death in absentia. The disgrace of the failed Kargil operation has never left him.

The foregoing narration elucidates the victory of righteousness over deceit, of bravery over duplicity. Sadly, the duplicity has not waned. Pakistan continues with its witch-hunt against India. Under international pressure to build bridges with India for the sake of regional security in the wake of the US withdrawal from Afghanistan Prime Minister Imran Khan has evolved another duplicitous policy. He has agreed to a cease-fire on the LoC but in the matter of talks it has laid down a condition of reversal to the pre-August 2019 status of Jammu and Kashmir. He knows it well that the New Delhi will never agree to this demand. Pakistan has, therefore, kept open the option of increasing the threshold of violence in Kashmir when its assets created with the help of the resurgent Taliban are in place.

In Afghanistan, as the withdrawal continues, the Taliban, in complete disregard for the understanding that it has with the US, is busy taking over the areas being vacated. It is reported that its various factions have already taken control of more than 120 districts, thus expanding its influence from 73 to 195 districts.

As the process of engagement with all players in the Afghanistan imbroglio continues it would be quite realistic to expect a considerable security disruption in Kashmir in times to come. The terror activities in Kashmir may not end any time soon, in fact, a serious attempt towards escalation is on the cards.

The silver lining is that the security forces in Kashmir led by the Indian Army are ready for any challenge posed to them by the malicious foreign forces. Foreign terrorists attempting infiltration will not find things as easy as the earlier times.

While celebrating the courage and devotion of the Indian Army during the Kargil war, the government of India and each and every citizen of the country need to remain ever ready to counter whatever evil design Pakistan would put in place to harm the nation. Pakistan’s duplicity should neither be forgotten nor forgiven.
