Baloch pay tribute to brave heart Shari Baloch on second death anniversary

Pak-occupied-Balochistan paid tribute and honour to Shari Baloch, the first Fidayee of Balochistan. Shari Baloch, a 31-year-old school teacher and mother of two, targeted Karachi University’s Confucius Centre in a suicide bombing killing four people, including three Chinese instructors.

Shari Baloch, who belonged to an educated and politically active family in Pak-occupied-Balochistan, carried out the deadly attack on April 26 as part of the freedom fighters group Majeed Brigade of the Balochistan Liberation Army (BLA). The Balochistan Liberation Army (BLA), one of the main groups fighting for the independence of Balochistan , said that the “era of women’s active participation in the armed struggle has begun.”

Shari’s family roots can be traced back to her maternal uncle Siddiq Azat, a founding member of the Baloch Students Organization (BSO), and her paternal uncle Ghani Parwaz, a prominent literary figure and political activist. Her father, Mohammad Hayat, recently retired as the Registrar of Turbat University.

“She was my most cheerful and beloved daughter. The news about her strained family relations is baseless,” said Mohammad Hayat. He revealed that just days before the attack, Shari had called home, speaking affectionately with family members about her Eid preparations.

However, Shari had been absent from her teaching job at the Government Girls High School in Kalat since October 2021 after applying for study leave to pursue an M.Phil, which was denied by the education department.

Her former colleagues and students remember her as a compassionate teacher who never exhibited any extremist leanings. “We never thought she would choose such a dangerous path”, said Dr. Sami Parwaz, Shari’s cousin.

Officials are currently in discussions with Shari’s family about handing over her remains for burial in her ancestral village of Nazar Abad.

Since 1947, Pak Army has not only forcefully occupied Balochistan but also has benefited from its rich resources. But Pak Army has left the province at the rock bottom of the socio-economic ladder, leaving the Baloch community oppressed and alienated. Nearly 41% of households in Pak-occupied-Balochistan live below the poverty line and with the China-Pakistan Economic Corridor (CPEC) in play, they will be further deprived of their resources and will continue to lag behind.

This was one of the reason for the freedom fighters to take up revolutionary measures against the oppressive brutal Army. Shari said that her decision for suicide bombing was also because of the humiliation felt by the Baloch community at the hands of Pak security institutions.

“Every day our people are disrespected. Our mothers, sisters and innocent children are on the roads protesting and crying for their loved ones,” wrote Shari in her statement.

TTP warns Maryam Nawaz over Punjab (Pak) musical show, calls it against Islam

The South Punjab chapter of the terrorist organization Tahreek e Taliban Pakistan (TTP) has issued a chilling warning against the musical shows recently announced by the Punjab government. In a statement, the terrorist group directed its threats towards Punjab Chief Minister Maryam Nawaz, cautioning of dire consequences if the government proceeds with its plans to promote what the TTP deems as obscenity and nudity among the people of Punjab.

Asserting their stance against the musical event announced by Maryam Nawaz, the TTP emphasized that the celebration of music goes against the principles of Islam, upon which the country was founded. It further urged students and the public to refrain from participating in such activities.

TTP’s attack on Pakistan have seen a sudden spike in recent past. It is also continuously issuing statements on the matters of Pakistan. Earlier, it urged the radicalised political parties of Pakistan to join hands to install a Taliban like rule in the country, saying that have not benefitted the Islamic Republic.

It is pertinent to note that terrorist organisations like TTP are the protege of Pakistan, which provided them a safe haven to inflict chaos on other territories but now it is facing the wrath of its own deeds.

Yet another abduction & conversion of minor Hindu girl to Islam in Sindh

In a disturbing incident from Kot Ghulam Mohammad, a minor girl named Neena, hailing from the Gujarati community, has reportedly gone missing from her home in the early hours of April 22, 2024. 13-year-old was abducted by a radical Islamist named Mehdi Hassan, also known as Mido Khaskheli. He also converted Neena before marrying off to her.

According to Neena’s family, Mehdi Hassan implicated her in disappearance and subsequent conversion to Islam. Mehdi orchestrated Neena’s conversion at the Pir Sarhandi shrine before marrying her off.

The situation is further complicated by Mehdi’s marital status; he is reported to be twice the age of the minor girl and already married with three children.

Adding to the controversy, reports suggest that the police have been accused of providing support to Mehdi, facilitating his actions. The family claims that law enforcement officials aided Mehdi in reaching the shrine for Neena’s religious conversion and subsequent marriage.

Neena being abducted, converted and married against her will raises serious concerns about the protection of minors and religious freedom in the region. The circumstances surrounding Neena’s disappearance and subsequent events underscore the need for a thorough investigation into the matter.

The community and Neena’s family demand justice and accountability from the authorities, urging them to ensure the safe return of the minor girl and to hold those responsible for her disappearance and alleged forced conversion accountable.

Pakistan Army abducts young Pashtun activist from Khyber-Pakhtunkhwa

In a chilling act of lawlessness and impunity, Pakistan Army has once again abducted a young Pashtun Tahafuz Movement (PTM) activist, along with his father from Khyber Pakhtunkhwa’s Bannu.

Reportedly, Security forces raided the house PTM activist Zia Arman Wazir and took away his little brother and father to an undisclosed location. The family is unable to find the whereabouts of the victim members.

It is pertinent to note that Pak Army continues to abduct the potential dessent voices, especially the ones from peaceful PTM, arbitrarily. Shockingly, the abducted victims are mostly taken dodging the law, rendering the family helpless. The victims are not presented in court and undergo brutal torture and barbarism of Pakistan Army.

It is a pressing issue that Pakistan Army is targetting the activists of an organisation which is peaceful in nature and takes the recourse of protests and demonstrations to put their issues at front.

Pak Army raids houses, loots crops & abducts a Baloch in Dera Bugti

Tensions continue to escalate in Dera Bugti as Pakistan’s counter-terrorism department (CTD), accompanied by intelligence officials, raided a house in the Gornadi area and abducted Bagan, the son of Meren Bugti. Reportedly, the family has received hefty ransom demands from the forces after the abduction.

The incident comes amid ongoing military operations in the region, where the Pak Army has been conducting operations for days in areas like Kordaan, Habib Rahi, Soor, and Layndi, as well as nearby areas of Dera Bugti district. Local farmers have said that the forces of mercilessly looting their crops and stored grains, representing a year’s worth of hard work meant to sustain their families.

“The forces are looting the year-long hard work and the grain stored by local farmers for their children”, said a local resident.

Eyewitnesses have confirmed the presence of a large number of forces in the area for the past days, with military vehicles being used to transport the looted crops and grains back to their camps.

The raids and crop looting operations have intensified the already tense situation in Pak-occupied-Balochistan, where locals have faced violence and oppression by the Pak Army for decades.

BNM activists take Baloch freedom struggle to Cambridge

In a bid to raise global awareness about the dire human rights situation in Pak-occupied-Balochistan, members of the Baloch National Movement (BNM) took their message of freedom and justice to the streets of Cambridge, engaging with students and citizens alike.

During the awareness campaign, BNM activists distributed pamphlets detailing the ongoing atrocities in the region, urging the local community to stand in solidarity with the Baloch cause. They shared stories of resilience and highlighted the urgent need for support in the face of Pak Army oppression.

The protest aimed to draw attention to the grave human rights violations perpetrated by Pak Army in Pak-occupied-Balochistan, including extrajudicial killings, enforced disappearances, torture, harassment at checkpoints, and kidnappings for ransom.

The Baloch people have faced widespread atrocities since the illegal occupation of Balochistan by the Pak Army in 1948. The international community’s silence has enabled Pakistan’s military aggression in the resource-rich region through a lack of accountability.

The BNM leadership has consistently criticized the international community’s lack of action in addressing the Balochistan crisis, as they are indirectly enabling the violations.

Simultaneously, the BNM Germany Chapter held its 5th General Body Meeting in Hannover, while the BNM South Korea chapter will organize a protest in Busan city’s Biff Square to denounce the ongoing Pak Military atrocities, including killings, abductions of civilians, and the prolonged occupation.

Shapuk CPEC route sit-in persists amid deteriorating health of missing Baloch’s mother

The sit-in protest along the CPEC route in Shapuk, Kech district, continues unabated, as the family of Naeem Rehmat, a forcibly disappeared student, refuses to end their demonstration until his safe release.

Naeem Rehmat, a second-semester student pursuing a BS Education degree at the University of Turbat, was forcibly disappeared on March 17, 2022. Over two years have passed, and his whereabouts remain unknown.

On April 10, 2024, the day of Eid, Naeem’s family staged a sit-in (Dharna) along the main CPEC route in Shapuk, demanding his immediate release. The puppet Deputy Commissioner of Turbat said that Naeem would be released within five days, however, the family has declined to end their protest, vowing to continue until he is safely returned.

Naeem’s mother’s health is deteriorating amid the ongoing struggle for justice. The Baloch Yakjahti Committee has appealed to the people across Shapuk and nearby areas to join the family’s sit-in and urged the Baloch Nation not to remain silent in the face of enforced disappearances.

Naeem’s case is not an isolated incident, as hundreds of Baloch students have faced similar fates of enforced disappearances, disrupting their education and causing immense distress to their families. Protests by families are often met with empty promises.

Enforced disappearances have become disturbingly frequent, with innocent Baloch youth and children becoming victims of this oppressive practice. In its efforts to maintain control over Pak-occupied Balochistan, the Pak Army has resorted to various oppressive tactics.

Pak-occupied Balochistan has long suffered under the unlawful control of Pakistan, dating back to 1948.

Pak Army abducts Sindhi leaders after GM Syed’s death anniversary celebration

Pakistan Army, along with its agencies and Jamshoro police, has abducted JSFM leader Shoban Lasari and 15 other Sindhi nationalist workers after their rally commemorating the 29th death anniversary of Sindhi nationalist leader GM Syed in Sunn city, demanding the end of forced conversion and release of Priya Kumari.

After the unnotified arrest, JSFM workers, largely comprising of women, blocked the National Highway expressing extreme distress and demanding immediate release of their fellow participants.

Notably, the rally, held at GM Syed’s grave, saw JSFM leaders and activists advocating an end to the forced conversion of Sindhi Hindu girls and denouncing the enforced disappearances and genocide of Sindhi and Baloch people. Participants voiced concerns over ongoing issues affecting their community, emphasizing the importance of preserving religious freedom and protecting ethnic minorities in Pak-occupied Sindh. Additionally, protestors demanded the release of Priya Kumari, a Hindu girl abducted nearly 3 years ago.

Hindu girls are under the constant threat of abduction, rape, coerced marriages and forced marriage in Pakistan. Instead of solving the issue, Pakistan chooses to be ignorant of it. The role of local police comes under suspicion as the local SSP Amjad Shah in a Television program claimed that she is alive and can be conceivably recovered.

Nonetheless, the JSFM rally and subsequent arrest of its leaders is a grim reminder of the continuously deteriorating law and order condition and freedom of expression in Pak occupied Sindh.

Pro-Palestine protests grip US universities; mass arrests

In a surge of pro-Palestine fervor, US universities on wednesday, reported disruption at four schools spanning Massachusetts, California, Texas, and New York.

At the University of Southern California (USC), Harvard University, the University of Texas at Austin (UT Austin), and Columbia University, discord unfolded amid divergent reactions to ongoing Israeli military actions in the Middle East.

Law enforcement intervened at USC, leading to the arrest of several protesters as tensions soared and USC DSP officers were called upon to restore order.

The US universities protests reflect widespread discontent with government policies and authorities amidst the ongoing Hamas-Israel conflict. Students have mobilized, turning their campuses into focal points for demanding accountability and an end to violence in Gaza. But what ignited this sudden wave of unrest?

Start of protests from Columbia University

Columbia University emerged as the epicenter of the nationwide protests, following its decision to involve the New York Police Department in dispersing pro-Palestinian demonstrators, triggering a chain reaction of intense demonstrations.

The turmoil at Columbia began with the arrest of 108 demonstrators, including Isra Hirsi, daughter of Rep. Ilhan Omar, prompting solidarity protests from institutions such as New York University, Yale University, and beyond.

The genesis of the protests can be traced back to April 17, when Columbia University President Nemat “Minouche” Shafik faced scrutiny over on-campus anti-Semitism during a congressional hearing. The subsequent police intervention escalated tensions, prompting students like Rachel, a Columbia student, to join the demonstrations, citing a growing sense of suppression and censorship.

The pro-Palestinian protests, advocating for divestment from Israeli companies and expressing solidarity with Palestinians, have resonated nationwide. Organizers view the protests as effective in urging administrations to consider divestment from Israel, despite facing pushback from conservative politicians advocating for a crackdown on demonstrators.

POGB residents burn Pak Army owned SIM cards in protest over poor service

Pakistan occupied Gilgit-Baltistan once again witnessed boils over the telecom network problem. In the latest development people from Diamer district publicly set ablaze the Pak Army owned SCO SIM cards over the banned 4G services. People demanded the immediate restoration of 4G services and network. They hurled slogans saying, “Bahaal karo, bahaal karo, 4G bahaal karo”. (Reinstate 4G services).

Notably, this is not the first instance that people have expressed anger and resentment over the non-availability of network. Earlier in February 2024, about 150 youths from Darel performed similar act to protest the weak signal and hefty prices.

Special Communication Organisation (SCO) is owned by Pakistani establishment and is the sole telecom service provide in the region, leaving people at their mercy. By having a sole proprietorship in telecom sector, Pakistan uses its upper hand to monitor and disseminate the information it likes, keeping people manipulated.

Essentially, this development comes at a time when Pakistan has acknowledged that it has kept social media sites down since the arrest of Imran Khan. Although, it cited national security as the reason, the reality is obvious. Pakistan is well known for curbing the voice of dissent and fears the aware population so it keeps them under restrictions. The SCO SIM is the latest example of that.
