Lone assailant stabs people in Australia’s shopping mall; kills 5 & injures several

Five victims have tragically lost their lives while over 8 have been injured following a frenzied stabbing attack by an armed lone assailant at a bustling Bondi Junction Westfield mall filled with Saturday shoppers in Sydney .

According to New South Wales Police, emergency calls from within Bondi Junction Westfield mall prompted the swift response of a lone police officer, who heroically confronted and fatally shot the attacker, potentially saving numerous lives.

Eight individuals have been hospitalized with knife wounds, including a baby, as a result of the vicious assault.

The heroic actions of a senior police officer, who was in the vicinity and swiftly intervened upon receiving emergency calls, have been credited with preventing further casualties. She courageously engaged the assailant and neutralized the threat when he brandished the knife.

Authorities have yet to ascertain the identity of the perpetrator, and there is no indication at this stage of any political or religious motives behind the attack. As per the video footage, an assailant wearing shorts and kangaroo jersey ran inside the mall with knife in hand.

Australian Prime Minister condemned the heinous act, expressing solidarity with the affected individuals and their families. He conveyed gratitude to the first responders and medical personnel attending to the injured.

In a show of support, New Zealand MP from Remutaka, Chris Hipkins, extended condolences to the victims’ families and emphasized the sizable Kiwi population residing in the area. He conveyed heartfelt sentiments to all affected by the tragedy, acknowledging the shared grief across the Tasman Sea.

Iran’s imminent attack on US-backed Israel expected within hours

Countries including India, Russia, France, Poland and the UK have warned their citizens against travelling to Israel, amid threats of an Iranian attack in response to a strike this month on its consulate in Damascus. This comes amid reports that Iran will likely launch a direct attack on Israel within the next 48 hours.

Hezbollah,a proxy of Iran in Lebanon launched a barrage of rockets on the northern part of Israel yesterday (12 April), claiming it to be the retaliatory strike on Israeli artillery positions in response to the recent airstrikes on southern Lebanese villages and civilian homes.

Tensions have been brewing in the Middle East for over 180 days, since the Hamas launched a massacring intrusion in Israel leading to a full-scale US backed counter offensive by the latter, marking the biggest Israeli attack in Gaza to date. After the latest Israeli strikes in Syria, targeting Iranian embassy, the attack on Israel is imminent. US, which has been one of the most crucial factors for the middle east fiasco, has confirmed that Iran will attack Israel to the North or east by upcoming 24 hours. Going by Joe Biden’s word, the attack will be ‘sooner than later‘. Based on its intel, US has sent a warship in the region to protect Israel.

US advisory to it’s officials confirm the possibility of retaliation

This seems more happening as before opening up on intelligence, US had issued an advisory to it’s officials in Israel restricting them from travelling outside Tel Aviv, Jerusalem and other major cities. Same happened during the recent Russian attack, when US issued advisory to it’s citizens sometime before the terrorist attack on the concert hall in Moscow. Evidently, the war has opened a Pandora’s box of events that has made the situation even more delicate each time. US’ interference in the region has only exacerbated the situation as it’s animosity with Iran made this one-on-one war between Israel and Hamas, a multifaceted one. However, Iran earlier has attacked Israeli and US assets through it’s proxies like Hezbollah, Houthis and IRI. But now, leave aside Iran backed militias, an Israeli attack on Iranian embassy in Syria has opened gateway for a direct Iranian involvement.

US creates confusion

US has, since the embassy attack, employed the tactic of ‘carrot and stick’ with on one hand, it asked countries like China to press Iran to refrain from taking any action while on the other, it gave a stern warning to Iran that it will support Israel in case it makes an attack. President Joe Biden has clearly stated that Israel can rely on the ‘Iron-clad’ backing of United States. But as history tells us, US can’t be relied upon such situations. Instead of condemning and setting Israel responsible for the embassy attack, US has committed to support it only because to initiate a direct conflict between Israel and Iran and weaken Iran in the process. It did the same with Ukraine. At first, it threatened Russia and when the latter reacted, US left Ukraine alone in the war with just weaponry and no military support.

Nevertheless, seeing the heightened tensions, India, France, Poland and Russia have also issued advisory to it’s citizens asking them not to travel to Israel or Iran.

Gulf waking up to reality

Reportedly, Iran has conveyed to the US that if it gets involved, Iran would attack it’s troops and bases in the region. And now Gulf countries have warned US to not use its bases on their soil for retaliation to Iranian response to Israel. Clearly countries like Saudi Arabia, UAE and others are changing their mindset about Iran as they know regional peace can only be achieved with cooperation nit coercion. They are also moving to prevent US warplanes from flying over their airspace in the event the US conducts a retaliatory strike on Iran.

Certainly, lots of diplomacy is being played on and off the table by both Iran and US. Amidst the possibility of attack, even after 12 days of Iranian embassy fiasco, Iran has succeeded to maintain a strategic domination. While the attack is bound to happen, Iran’s fallout containment approach and stern warning leave large space of speculations open. Whatsoever, the attack is bound to happen, it is just the intensity of the attack and the subsequent reaction of Israel, that would decide the course of the conflict , which for now, seems to start spill over. On the contrary, the one who is providing oxygen to the conflict is only to benefit by maintaining it’s hegemony over Iran, the biggest contender of US in middle East.

Pakistan faces heavy UN criticism over forced marriage conversion of minor girls

UN human rights experts have strongly criticized Pakistan for failing to protect young women and girls belonging to religious minority communities, particularly Christians and Hindus from horrific abuses.

The experts stated that these girls remain highly vulnerable to a range of human rights violations, including forced religious conversion, abduction, trafficking, child and forced marriage, domestic servitude, and sexual violence. They emphasized that the exposure of these young women and girls to such “heinous human rights violations”. Shockingly, the perpetrators of these crimes often go unpunished, with puppet authorities dismissing the cases as “love marriages.”

The experts noted with alarm that forced marriages and religious conversions of girls from religious minorities are often validated by the courts, with perpetrators escaping accountability as the crimes are dismissed as “love marriages.” They stressed that child, early, and forced marriage cannot be justified on religious or cultural grounds, and that under international law, consent is irrelevant when the victim is a child under 18.

Forced Conversions and Marriages

Highlighting specific cases, the experts mentioned the abduction and forced conversion of a young girl named Mishal Rasheed in 2022, as well as the alleged abduction, forced conversion, and marriage of a 13-year-old Christian girl last month. They made it clear that any change of religion must be completely voluntary, without coercion.

The UN experts called on the Pak authorities to take immediate action. This includes enacting and strictly enforcing laws to ensure that marriages are entered into only with the full consent of both parties, and raising the minimum age for marriage to 18 for girls.

“A woman’s right to choose a spouse and freely enter into marriage is central to her life, dignity, and equality as a human being,” the experts stated, urging the authorities to end the impunity for these horrific crimes and uphold Pakistan’s international human rights obligations.

However, despite recurring incidents of targeted abductions and conversions, the law enforcement has mostly remained numb while taking the action. The gruesome condition of minorities in Pakistan mostly goes unnoticed adding further distress and agony for the victim, their family and community.

China’s fast fashion company Shein faces boycott for indulging in Uyghur forced labour

The Save Uyghur Organisation, a human rights group, has initiated a boycott campaign against the Chinese online fast-fashion retailer Shein, for the company’s involvement in the forced labor of Uyghur Muslims in China.

As Muslims around the world celebrate Eid ul-Fitr, the group has specifically called on Muslim women to refrain from purchasing from Shein, which is known for its affordable offerings of religious garments like jilbabs (a full-length, loose-fitting garment covering the head to toe).

Arslan Hidayat, the head of the Save Uyghur campaign, emphasized the importance for Muslims to use their consumer power to protest the use of forced labor and to demonstrate solidarity with the Uyghur community.

“It is crucial for Muslims to use their consumer power to protest against the use of forced labour and to demonstrate solidarity with the Uyghur community,” Hidayat told the Voice of America.

The campaign is being driven by the Chicago-based human rights organization ‘Justice for All,’ which advocates for stopping “China’s genocide of the Uyghurs and other Turkic people of East Turkistan.”

The Save Uyghur Organisation argues that Shein’s use of forced labor exacerbates the oppression of the Uyghur people. The group has urged the Muslim community to prioritize ethical consumption practices and advocate for justice for the Uyghur population.

The list of atrocities being inflicted on Uyghurs is terrifying. While indoctrination and forced labour in internment camps under garb of “re-education and vocational training” is used to alter their political outlook, forcing Uyghurs to consume alcohol and pork as well as discouraging fasting during Ramadan is used to destroy their religious beliefs. In addition, mass sterilization and intrauterine contraceptive device implantation programs are employed to systematically reduce the Uyghur population to an insignificant minority.

Voice of Missing Persons Sindh organises protest camp; demands freedom of missing Sindhi workers

Voice for Missing Persons of Sindh, in collaboration with the ‘Sindh Sajagi Forum,’ convened a protest camp in support of the liberation of missing Sindhi laborers.

According to the Voice for Missing Persons of Sindh (VMPS), the protest camp was established on Wednesday night and persisted until Thursday noon.

VMPS conveyed, “On behalf of Voice for Missing Persons of Sindh and Sindh Sajagi Forum, a protest camp was set up for the freedom of all missing Sindhi workers from last night Eid night till noon today.”

Criticizing what they perceive as the Sindh government’s incompetence, demonstrators expressed their frustration regarding the inability to locate and rescue Kumari, abducted from Sukkur just days ago.Displaying placards, protestors vehemently condemned what they deemed the routine abduction of innocent Hindu girls in Sindh and highlighted the worsening security conditions for religious minorities.

Notably, the brutal assassination of Sindhi nationalist Hidayat Lohar by the Pakistan Army and the year-long case of missing girl child Priya Kumari have sparked a wave of unrest in Sindh. A series of protests have ensued in both cases with similar outcomes of atrocious handling and no resolution.

These incidents have once again underscored that the only means of survival in Sindh is through silence and ignorance in the face of persecution. Any dissenting voice is met with extra-judicial force.

ISKP terrorists bomb and destroy Taliban oil tanker near Kabul

In a targeted attack on April 9th, ISKP (Islamic State Khorasan Province) terrorists detonated an IED in the Murad Beg Qalaa area, north of Kabul, Afghanistan. The explosion destroyed an oil tanker and set others ablaze within a Taliban convoy.

The attack came just day before the Eid festival. Conspicuously, Islamic State and Afghan Taliban have come to loggerheads as ISKP (Khorasan Province) accuses Taliban of apostacy and deviating for the path of jihad. Recently, finding an ISKP attack imminent, Taliban went on high alert. It even erected a wall around a Kabul Mosque to prevent the potential ISKP attack on it targetting Taliban leader Hazibullah Akhundzada, who was supposed to offer prayers in the mosque.

The friction between both the terror organisation is at the all-time-high. Last month, the Islamic State-Khorasan Province targeted the Kabul bank branch in Kandahar in a suicide bombing that killed 43 and left 45 injured.

Maldives plans roadshows across India to get back Indian tourists

Amid declining tourist numbers from India to the Maldives, the Maldives Association of Travel Agents and Tour Operators (MATATO) has unveiled plans to conduct roadshows across key Indian cities. This initiative aims to attracts Indian tourists back to the island nation, following strained diplomatic relations between the two countries.

The decision follows a noticeable decline in Indian tourist arrivals in the Maldives. Discussions between MATATO and India’s High Commissioner, Munu Mahawar, centered on boosting travel and tourism cooperation between the two nations.

This decline in Indian visitors came after a social media backlash when three Maldivian officials made derogatory remarks about India and Prime Minister Narendra Modi on social media. This occurred after Prime Minister Modi shared images and videos of the picturesque Lakshadweep Islands on January 6 through his social media platform.

The repercussions led to numerous cancellations of reservations by Indian travelers, including celebrities, causing India’s position to drop down to first fifth and now at the sixth position after January.

Maldives Tourism

According to the statistics by the Maldives’ Ministry of Tourism, this year as of April 10, of the total 6,63,269 tourists arriving, China continued to lead with 71,995, followed by the United Kingdom (66,999), Russia (66,803), Italy (61,379), Germany (52,256) and India (37,417).

Despite these setbacks, Maldives remains keen on attracting Indian tourists. MATATO aims to collaborate closely with the Indian High Commission in the Maldives to enhance tourism initiatives. Plans include comprehensive roadshows and media trips to the Maldives in the upcoming months.

“MATATO expressed its intention to collaborate closely with the Indian High Commission in Maldives to bolster tourism initiatives. Plans are underway to launch a comprehensive roadshow across key cities in India and to facilitate influencer and media familiarisation trips to the Maldives in the forthcoming months,” the tourism body said in a statement.

Recognizing India’s significance as a crucial market for Maldivian tourism, MATATO seeks partnerships with Indian travel associations and industry stakeholders to promote the Maldives as a premier travel destination.

Before the onset of this diplomatic dispute, Maldives President Mohamed Muizzu, hours after assuming office last November, asked India to withdraw its 88 military personnel from the Maldives, citing concerns over sovereignty. Known for his pro-China stance, President Muizzu declared that following the repatriation of all 88 personnel by May 10, no Indian military personnel, even in civilian attire, would remain stationed in the Maldives.

Protests across Pakistan on Eid; demand end to forceful disappearances by Pak Army

Under the leadership of the Baloch Unity Committee and Vice President Baloch Missing Persons, protests have erupted across Pak-occupied-Balochistan, Karachi and Islamabad on Eid, calling for the recovery of missing individuals and an end to enforced disappearances by Pak Army in Quetta, under the banner of the protest rally “Voice for Baloch Missing Persons,” organized by the Quetta Press Club. Besides pictures of missing persons, posters demanding the recovery of missing persons were also displayed.

The participants of the rally returned to the press club from various neighborhoods where a protest session was held. A large number of relatives of missing persons addressed the protest, including a 9-year-old innocent girl.

The girl said she was three years old when her father, Jehanzeb Baloch, was forcibly disappeared in 2016 by the Pak Army. She said, “Now I am 9 years old. I haven’t seen my father. On the occasion of Eid, other girls go shopping with their parents besides going to parks. Whom should I go shopping with, and who will take me to the park?”

Lifting up the new clothes and shoes in her hands, she said, “My grandmother buys new clothes and shoes for my father every Eid, hoping that if my father returns on the night of Eid, his Eid would not be without new clothes and shoes.”

Eid Protests

The Baloch Students Council in Islamabad also staged a peaceful protest in front of the National Press Club against the enforced disappearance of Feroz Baloch, Ahmed Khan and the harassment of Baloch students.

In a video from Awaran, Grisha, Khuzdar, and Naan, scores of people, including women and children, marched. In Quetta, a large number of people, including women and children, took to the streets in a demonstration to demand the recovery of forcibly disappeared individuals. On Eid day, Balochs and Sindhis held a protest against enforced disappearances at the Karachi Press Club. Additionally, in Pak-occupied-Balochistan, relatives of missing persons protested for the release of Baloch missing persons.

On a wall in Pak-occupied-Balochistan, there is a inscription: “There is no Eid without our beloved ones.”

On this occasion, the Vice-Chairman of Voice for Baloch Missing Persons, Mama Qadeer Baloch, said that the protests of the relatives of missing persons have been ongoing for two decades, but for the past 16 years, they have been taking to the streets every Eid for the recovery of their loved ones.

He said, “Our demand is simple, that if the missing persons have committed any crime, they should be presented in the courts according to the state laws, and if they are innocent, they should be recovered immediately.”

End to Enforced Disappearances

Dr. Mahrang Baloch, a leader of the Baloch Unity Committee, strongly criticized the inhumane behaviour displayed by various institutions towards addressing the matter. Despite ongoing protests and rallies, the situation persists, with more disappearances reported each month.

She said that today protest rallies have been organized in 25 cities of Balochistan, including Quetta, for the recovery of missing persons and against enforced disappearances. She lamented the fact that while people around the world celebrated Eid, families of missing persons were compelled to protest, underscoring the urgency of the matter.

Dr. Baloch emphasized that the suffering of those affected by enforced disappearances cannot be overstated. The Baloch Yakjehti Committee, currently in its 5th phase against Baloch Genocide, organized widespread protests across 25 regions in Balochistan, including Bhag, Rakni, and Kohlu, with significant participation from the Baloch community.

From Lyari to Koh e Suleman, the Baloch Nation has endured a systematic genocide for the past 75 years. The Baloch Yakjehti Committee remains steadfast in its commitment to continue the struggle until this genocide ends. Currently in its 5th phase against Baloch Genocide, the BYC has organized protests across Pak-occupied Balochistan on Eid. Pak-occupied Balochistan is currently experiencing systematic genocide based on its identity, including enforced disappearances, extrajudicial killings, military operations, forced displacements, economic oppression, and other atrocities.

Pakistan Army storms police station in Punjab (Pak); tortures station officer

The Bahawalnagar police station in Pakistan’s Punjab witnessed a distressing scene as reports surfaced of a brazen intrusion by 35 to 40 armed personnel from the Pakistan Army. The shocking incident unfolded when the armed soldiers forcibly entered the station, leaving a trail of chaos and violence in their wake.

According to reports, the soldiers, arriving in a convoy of seven to eight vehicles, stormed into the A Division police station. Once inside, they unleashed a wave of aggression, subjecting officers and personnel to degrading treatment and physical assault.

SHO Rizwan Abbas bore the brunt of the attack, facing severe violence at the hands of the intruding Pakistan Army. Additionally, other police officers and personnel were not spared, as they were met with blows from rifle butts and sticks.

Disturbing footage capturing the soldiers’ reprehensible actions circulated widely on social media, drawing widespread condemnation and outrage.

Following the assault, the army personnel proceeded to vandalize government CCTV equipment and confiscated the DVR before departing from the scene to dodge the tracing.

After Bahawalnagar, Pak Army storms into hospital

In a subsequent turn of events, the soldiers converged at the District Headquarters Hospital, where they targeted police service center personnel, assaulting them and forcibly taking Dr. Sajid into their custody.

The harrowing incident stemmed from a police raid on the residence of an individual associated with a sensitive agency. The police had, in fact, acted on information suggesting the presence of criminals at the location, prompting the raid that ultimately led to the escalation of tensions between law enforcement and military personnel.

After the visuals of the Bahawalnagar incident went viral, the reaction of Pakistanis flooded the social media. While some condemned the act, majority of people are calling it the ‘Karma.’ People are emphasising how Pakistan Police and Army crushed the civili liberties of common people and that this was bound to happen one day or the another.

Pulwama: Encounter ensues between Pak backed terrorists & security forces

In a latest development, an encounter has erupted between terrorists and security forces in Pulwama district of Kashmir. According to initial reports, one terrorist has been neutralized, but efforts to retrieve the body are still ongoing.

The exchange of gunfire occurred in the Arshipora area of Pulwama during a cordon and search operation initiated by security forces following intelligence inputs about the presence of terrorists in the vicinity.

Senior police officials have confirmed that the terrorists opened fire on the search party, prompting the security forces to retaliate. While one terrorist is believed to have been shot down, his body remains unsecured at the time of reporting. Additionally, another terrorist is suspected to be trapped in the area.

The situation remains fluid as gunfire continues between the security forces and the trapped terrorists. Further updates are awaited as the encounter unfolds in Pulwama.

It is worth mentioning that just a couple of days ago, army troops opened fire and launched a subsequent search operation in Rajouri after they noticed suspicious movement of a group of people in the darkness. These incidents highlight growing challenges of Pak instigated instability in the region. Just a week ago, Indian security forces foiled an infiltration attempt in Iri killing two terrorists. Notably, elections are to be conducted for UT assembly by October this year and so Pakistan is trying to destabilise the valley so that it can hamper the peaceful environment that has been created in J&K after the revocation of Article 370.
