Islamic State of Khorasan Province (ISKP) has yet again orchestrated an attack on the Afghan soil, targetting Afghan Taliban. On May 8, a convoy of Taliban was targeted in an IED blast planted on a motorcycle. The blast resulted in the death of 6 Taliban men while at least six others were injured.

A spokesman for the Taliban’s interior ministry, Abd al-Mutin Qani, confirmed the casualties, stating that the bomb was aimed at a unit of security forces dispatched to eradicate illegal poppy fields. He added that an investigation into the attack is ongoing.

In recent months, targeted attacks in Afghanistan have been increased by the ISKP. The terrorist organization has accused the Taliban of apostasy and has been behind several horrific attacks on Afghan soil. Incidents such as the assault on a Shiite mosque, the targeting of a Taliban oil tanker, and an attack near Kabul bank are some of the recent attacks orchestrated by the ISKP in the Taliban-ruled-country.

In a disturbing development, 14 members of the Hindu family belonging to Thori Marwari community and residing in the village of Yaro Lund in Ghotki, Pakistan, have been forcibly converted to Islam at the infamous Bharchundi dargah in Sindh.

Notably, Bharchundi dargah in Sindh’s Daharki, headed by Mian Javed Ahmad Qadri is the biggest site of forceful conversion of Hindus in entire Pakistan.

These forced conversions are orchestrated by radicalized clerics, who operate with impunity under the protection of the socio-political system in Pakistan. Converting non-Muslims is perceived as a sacred duty by a significant portion of Pakistani society, leading to the coercion of individuals into adopting Islam.

Sindh being the biggest Hindu populated region faces the wrath most. The radical clerics responsible for these conversions often boast about increasing their count of converted individuals and aim to Islamize entire populations within specific areas within a set timeframe.

For instance, a bigot named Pir Ayub Jan Farooqui has vowed to Islamise the entire Hindi population of Umerkot (Amarkot) and Tharparkar districts. So, these illicit conversions poses a direct threat to religious freedom and the rights of minority communities in Pakistan.

What is particularly alarming is that these conversions frequently target children, who may have little to no understanding of religion, further exacerbating the issue.

With due consideration, the persistence of such practices without challenge underscores the complicity of the Pakistani establishment in perpetuating religious discrimination and violating the rights of minority groups.

Hence, e situation calls for urgent attention and action to safeguard religious freedom and protect vulnerable communities from coercion and persecution.

In a deadly escalation of tensions, Israel has attained full control of the Rafah crossing, halting the aide into the region. Its tank took control of the crossing with warplanes hovering over. Israel based its action on the reports of misuse of humanitarian aide for terrorist purposes.

Amid the operation to control Rafah, Israel killed as many as 15 people in a day long period. Israel has also claimed that it pounded various Hamas targets with 20 terrorists being killed.

Notably Israel started to attack Rafah with its airstrikes on the city following a rocket attack on the Kerem Shalom border crossing.The attack, claimed by Hamas, resulted in the deaths of three Israeli soldiers and prompted swift retaliation from Israel.

Meanwhile, humanitarian organisation and displaced people were told to move from Eastern Rafah (targeted area) to al-Mawasi in west.

According to Palestinian health officials, at least 19 people were killed by Israeli fire on Sunday. The Israeli military reported that 10 projectiles were launched from Rafah towards the Kerem Shalom crossing, leading to its closure for aid trucks entering Gaza.

Israel was planning Rafah attack since months as it remains the only densely populated area of Gaza.

Hamas’ armed wing stated that it targeted an Israeli army base near the crossing, emphasizing that the commercial crossing was not the intended target. However, Israeli airstrikes hit a house in Rafah shortly after the Hamas attack, resulting in three deaths and several injuries, according to Palestinian medics.

The Israeli military confirmed the retaliatory strike, stating that it targeted the launcher used by Hamas and a nearby military structure. It accused Hamas of exploiting humanitarian facilities and using the civilian population as human shields.

Protesters from various ethnic and activist groups flooded the streets of Paris to voice their opposition to Chinese President Xi Jinping’s two-day visit to France. Unfurling banners and waving flags, Uyghur, Tibetans, and Chinese activists gathered to denounce China’s human rights abuses and assert their demands for freedom and justice.

The demonstrations began with a powerful declaration from Tibetan activists, who displayed a large banner proclaiming “Free Tibet” and confronted Xi Jinping’s motorcade as it made its way through the Boulevard Périphérique. The presence of the “Free Tibet flag” symbolised the Tibetan independence movement’s defiance against Chinese oppression.

Ethnic Tibetans and Uyghurs, along with activists from various backgrounds, joined forces to condemn Beijing’s crackdown on religious and cultural freedoms in Tibet and Xinjiang. They highlighted the plight of their communities and called attention to China’s mass arbitrary detentions and other human rights violations.

As per reports, Tenzin Yangzom, campaigns coordinator at International Tibet Network, emphasized the urgency of the situation, asserting that Tibetans will not rest until they achieve freedom. The protesters urged President Macron and European leaders to stand up against Xi Jinping’s regime and prioritise human rights in their engagements with China.

Demonstration at Place de la République

The demonstrations culminated in a gathering at Place de la République, where over 1,000 demonstrators rallied for an end to repression in Tibet, the release of political prisoners, and halt to China’s dam construction projects. Street performers depicted the dire human rights situation in Tibet as protesters marched to Place de la Bastille, where they remained for hours.

Despite facing opposition from pro-China activists and surveillance from Chinese agents, the protesters remained steadfast in their demands for justice.

Notably, anti-Xi activists from China also participated in the protests, highlighting the diversity of voices within China and dissent against Xi’s authoritarian rule. These activists underscored the importance of defending freedom and universal values in the face of Xi Jinping’s growing influence.

Xi Jinping’s visit to France comes amid growing concerns over China’s expanding authoritarianism and its Belt and Road Initiative, which has raised questions about the erosion of democratic norms in Europe. As Xi continues his European tour, protesters vow to keep up the pressure and demand accountability for China’s human rights violations.
